^ I love that book! That sounds like a unique approach to the analysis.

I wonder if everyone interested in IR and other related subjects lived in a different country at one point
[/quote]

I'm very interested in international affairs, but I've only lived in two countries: China and the U.S. I moved to the U.S. when I was 4, but I've wanted to go into science for most of my life. All of this changed when I moved to Washington, DC, where I now have access to a myriad of resources: professionals, organizations, events, universities. The city still amazes me. I've been to seminars sponsored by the USIP, IMF, NAPF, UNA-USA, IPS, Africa Action, US State Department, GU Lecture Fund, and other NGOs. Talking to the people there--it's incredible! Going to GU or AU for conferences and skipping school to hear Madeleine Albright speak...I've gotta say that I love DC.

So...you can probably guess which seminar is my first choice. :]

I'm not sure though, since it wants to know what the goal of the book is- I want to analyze it linguisticaly, but I can't figure out how to tie that into the book's goal. Any ideas?
BTW, which TASP do you want? I want the one TX. Huzzah for linguistics!

The goal of the book is usually the theme or idea that the author wants to present, so you should write about how Burgess's slang helps to convey this theme. I don't know anything about linguistics (sorry!), but perhaps certain words evoke certain emotions that help the reader understand the book's theme?

Hey guys. I've been lurking around this forum for quite some while now, and I need to ask a favor from one of you. Right now I'm trying to get the TASP application and brochure online, but the site hasn't been working for me over the past few days. I was hoping one of you could email me the two files, if possible.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't started my seminar choice thing. I'll probably talk about how being a feminist/my status as an other (I'm racially mixed/a not-very-liked religious minority where I am) has made me more interested/involved in civil rights movements as a whole. Except you know, more articulate sounding :)

Icicle--the site hasn't been working for me either, and I do not know why! I would also love anybody forever if they could email me a copy of the the application. Muchas gracias!

I know that the acceptance rate for TASP is quite low. But do you any of you know if it's because indeed, it is composed of a number of highly "qualified" motivated students, or that perhaps, just a bunch of kids applying? --since anyone can really, get that application... but i guess if they're willing to do about 4 real essays during their winter break then..... but do any of you know, anywhos?

Does anyone know what the "community activites" under family information refer to? I checked this thread already and no one seemed to had talked about it.

go St. Louis kids. That seminar is going to rule the night. I said it before, but if/when I am rejected by TASP, I'll have to hitchhike my way out to Missouri and sneak in. Hmm, maybe that's how I should phrase my essays, "accept me or i'll come anyway. your choice, really."

^Haha, I was thinking about sneaking in myself actually...would it be possible? If you tell them you drove all that way, and paid for gas yourself--would they really kick you away? :)

Oasis, it refers to what community services your parents do. It's not at all an important part of your app, as some people leave it blank (or so I've eard from the 05ers).

Lately, the dreams I've been having about getting rejected from college has changed to getting rejected from TASP.

Hopefully I don't have one of those freaky powers where I can tell the future with a dream.

Is it a bad idea to do your essays the week before the app is due??? I find that I work best under pressure, and also when midterms are done with!!!
