Hello, my AP World History teacher nominated me to attend the TASS (Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar) summer program. I know that TASP is very prestigious, but what about TASS? They seem to be selective as they rely on teacher nominators, essays, and an interview. And they give all admitted students a full scholarship to attend.

I noticed that many students are African American. Why is this so? One of the essay questions asks you to write about an African American leader too. Is it geared towards African Americans? I am a white female student.

Thanks

This may come off as rude, but did you bother to look up any specifics of the program? It’s not geared towards African American students, but the whole seminar is based around African American studies and similar areas, so there is clearly an appeal for them.
As for prestige, especially in comparison to TASP, I have no idea, but I would assume it’s about as prestigious, maybe a bit less so.
I wouldn’t suggest applying unless you have a genuine interest in it, and do try and look into it on the official website before asking an easily answered question.
@IrisShadow This may come off as rude, but did you bother to read the date of this thread? 2012-- the OP’s already a rising college freshman.
