Tax Forms

How exactly do we submit the tax forms to all the colleges we applied to?

Can we email them the scan, or must we fax it, snailmail?

Is there a way to just post it on your common app and have it sent out to all applied colleges.

Thanks

I haven’t heard schools accepting other than a hard copy, probably because they wanted it signed.

No. Each school will have different rules. Some schools might not want your tax forms. If the school only uses FAFSA, they might only want you to transfer your tax information directly from the IRS, given that you are a US citizen and qualify for the FAFSA.

If the school uses the CSS Profile, many schools will use a service called IDOC, through the College Board, for domestic US applicants. You’ll mail your tax information into one office, and that office will scan and make sure copies get to where they need to go.

Some schools may want mailed hard copies, regardless. Some of my schools preferred scans and emails. Since schools with significant institutional aid (typically private, typically using the CSS Profile) can give their money however they’d like, they can choose to ask for documentation however they’d like. You need to check the FA deadlines and procedures for each school you’re applying to.

After you submit the FAFSA (and if applicable the Profile), the colleges will notify you if they need anymore information and if they do want more information they will tell you how and when you need to submit. Please read all emails and open all snail mail from all colleges where you filed applications and financial aid. If you were assigned a web access and/or an e-mail address to the colleges you need to also be vigilant about checking that also.

Also, some schools require an IRS tax transcript (for both student and parent/s).
