Is a tax internship at a large company's headquarters as valuable as one with a public firm? Would I be able to get a CPA license if I were to be offered a full time position in private industry given that I would work under a CPA preparing returns? Can you easily switch to another accounting field within a company if you interned in tax?

Let's say I want to leave after the internship. Would an employer look down on this because it isn't public accounting tax?

DiegoEC: Yes. Check the rules for licensing in your state, Usually, but may depend upon the company.

Internships are a way to “try out” both environments. They are different. Neither employer will be surprised that you want to experience both before accepting a full time position. Just be diplomatic when asked what you liked and disliked about each during the full time interview process. Good luck!
