Has anyone gotten notification in the mail yet? Mails were sent out on July 1st according to Scholarship Management Services, but due to the holidays, there might be a slight delay.

No, I was just looking for this myself… we applied the first day possible & were really hoping for something from this. Anyone else heard anything?

nothing here…
Did hear from 2 others today though :)

I had a bunch of kids apply the first day it came out. None of my students have heard anything either. . .

I still haven’t heard anything either. Glad I’m not the only one though, surely not all of us didn’t get it Maybe they’re just running behind. I applied towards the end of the allotted time, so I was just guessing I waited too long

I also applied the first day the program opened up. I sent it via 1 day express mail and I haven’t heard anything. I also work at a Jr. College and i have never seen the grant on anyones account…hummmm. This makes me wonder…

@shante - we got the scholarship info from the college my kids are attending from a list of “outside scholarships” other students have gotten, so I know it’s legit.

Still waiting & hoping, it’s encouraging that others haven’t heard yet either. This would make a huge difference to our family.

Shante-
It’s legit. I think I had about 6 students apply for it last year and 4 received it. Not bad odds!

I got the info from my school’s financial aid office and they said “many” of their students had gotten the grant last year. Still holding onto some hope!!

I applied the first day as well, and sent the application and requested documents via express, and have not heard anything yet. I was thinking that perhaps the mail was slow because of the holiday, but this is not looking good. We got it last year.

I got my notification letter about a week ago. $4300+!

@love2bmama, would you be willing to share when you sent yours in & your EFC?

I’m really puzzled now… my students have EFC’s of 2 & 12… both sent applications in the first day and neither has heard anything. I’m wondering what it takes to qualify.

@love2bmama
Was yours for the in Texas or outside of Texas Grant?
thanks!
Lisa

We had EFC of 0000. Sent it by express on the 1st day. Worked for us last year, but so far nothing this year. Also have 2 other students with 0000 EFC, who responded on the 1st day and they have heard nothing.

This is really strange. Perhaps there is a rule change that we are not aware of .

I sent my application in on the first day it was available, and I live outside of TX. My EFC was 0. My daughter also sent in her application the same day, from the same place, and she did not get the offer letter either. I’m still checking the mail every day, hoping she gets it.

The fin aid office at my school said the amount I got was the maximum they give out, and they did have other recipients but not a lot.

PS editing to add, my daughter’s EFC is also zero, and we did not use express mail, just the regular postal service. Hope there has just been a delay and that some of you hear from them soon!

@love2bmama, Thanks for the info… at this point I guess we’re looking into additional loans (bleeyuch!) and will be very pleasantly surprised if something shows up. More than a week difference seeps pretty unlikely.

Thanks again.

UPDATE - Not sure WHAT happened, but my daughter JUST got notification of grant. We’re in Michigan, so way outside Texas. The letter is dated Dec 8th & JUST came in the mail. It’s “'only” $2450, but we’re NOT complaining!!!

Craziness is that she’s in TN & they sent it to our permanent address in MI - and she has to get signed acceptance back by Dec 20th. She isn’t coming back to the state until Dec 26th! THANKFUL for scanners and printers… will send electronically & she’ll have to do the rest.

It’s wild because it talks about fall 2011 acceptance & billing even though that’s all done… no idea why it was so delayed… maybe she’s getting leftovers from folks who didn’t get things returned on time!!! Puzzled but pleased.

I also got the late award letter early in December and signed it and sent it back before the 20th deadline but I’m wondering how or when this award will be paid out. If anyone who revived this grant can give me some info I would really appreciate it.

My Daughter talked to the Financial Aid office before coming home for the holidays & they had gotten the notification as well. All I can assume is that the response time is SHORT (received Dec 12 & needs to be returned by Dec 20) maybe some people who originally got the grant didn’t respond in time & the funds are being reassigned??? Or perhaps some were disqualified for some reason (that happened to my daughter last January with a scholarship - she received reassigned funds).

Anyway - the college was fine with her not paying that amount towards her bill since the grant was promised. Hope that helps
