For instance, I signed up for a credit card through my credit union and my interest rate is waaaaay lower than what I would have received from a bank. If you also tend to run low on money, credit unions typically have free checking for members.

I am probably going to get a credit union account anyway, but I am going to need a bank that my mom can access in canton. I guess I’ll have to go with either chase of national city.

I haven’t noticed any besides the one, but I don’t get out around town much. There is definitely one at the corner of south university and east university, which is about two minutes from the central campus diag.

I’ve been with TCF since 2006 and am very happy. Plenty of ATMs, 4 branches that I can think of in Ann Arbor, lots of branches in Metro Detroit and Chicago, better hours than any other bank. Up until the recent financial crisis, they also paid a very good interest rate on savings accounts (2%).

I am getting a credit card through BOA and thought it would be easiest to just go with them, but the only thing I can find for them downtown is a branch office a mile away from my dorm. I walk that far every day now as a commuting Spring student so that isnt striking me as un-doable but I don’t like that part of town after dark. Soo maybe I’ll do PNC. I may not have any choice but to deal with three separate banks. Blech.

We are going with PNC!! Minimum balance of $50 and no check writing fees. We are just using it for checking if necessary and atm cash withdrawls. With the meal plan which includes Blue Bucks and Dinning Dollars it would be needed too often. Can deposit out of state checks without penalty as well…just takes a day or two to clear. Great A2 location, student union and I believe one on North Campus as well. WE did not like the idea of the Mcard being tied also to checking. What a pain if you lose the Mcard> Good luck.
