Opening up a bank account...UMCU or PNC bank?

I need my own account for loans…which one would be better? My family just moved to Ann Arbor btw.

TCF has more teller machine on campus and in dorms.

TCF actually ended their contract with UMich and PNC took it over, so I think PNC ATMs will probably have more of a presence in the dorms/in campus buildings starting next year.

That’s really all I have to contribute, sorry. I use TCF, which you could also consider. They’ve been my bank for three years and I’ve had a pretty good experience overall.

They did end the contract for the link to M-card. ATM machines in the dorm may or may not change as they may be under different contract and rental agreement. My D actually use Credit Union as there is a branch in the Pierpoint Common in North Campus. It is more convenient for engineering students.

I prefer UMCU. They generally better service and lower fees. They also have some useful products like low/no fee credit cards and ATM’s. For example, you can go to any credit union anywhere and use ATM’s (usually) for no fee. We used foreign ATM’s and were charged a 1% currency conversion fee , but no other fees, in several European countries and Canada. There are branches at the Union, Pierpont, on William St and Plymouth Rd, plus ATM’s at several campus locations (hospital, NCRC, Nursing school, etc.). The mobile app is decent for check deposit too.

^ The app for check deposit is really convenient.

I got UMCU

I’ve been with PNC for 10+ years. I hate them. I much, much, much prefer credit unions.

ETA: Oh just saw the last comment. Yay!

I have been with UMCU for 16 years. Even after I moved out of campus, I still use it.

GREAT
