TCNJ Class of 2023 RD

Rowan is accepting apps until May 1. I don’t know if it’s too late for merit or honors but anyone with good stats (@futuredocml 's kid) should call and inquire. There are great opportunities for good students there.

Anyone else heading to accepted student’s day tomorrow? Hoping for nice weather!!

Ecstatic to announce, my daughter applied Tuesday to RCNJ (Ramapo) Computer Science, similar college abbreviation, and accepted 2 hours ago today (8pm). Award letter in 2 weeks. Any aid is the question but can’t count on picked off waitlist for TCNJ for 1st choice IMM, 2nd choice Computer Science.

Great news @NJMOM2023 Congratulations!

That is great news, @NJMOM2023 … Ramapo is a great school, and a beautiful campus. I am sure they can offer some nice aid… a friend just asked them for more, and got it. TCNJ is very stingy with their money ? CONGRATS!

Thank you. It’s exciting. Going to Accepted Students Day Sunday and maybe William Paterson Saturday, she was accepted there too on Tuesday. The email says it’s not official until we get the letter in the mail so not sure if attendance is allowed Saturday at William Paterson. She has to call admissions tomorrow.

My son nonchalantly announced yesterday he’s decided on TCNJ and we should cancel accepted students days this weekend at Drexel and Stevens. He dropped this casually, as if it is no big deal! We are so excited because this means NO STUDENT LOANS! Stevens and Drexel both gave him merit but with their price tags he still would have had to borrow money. He is saying he does not want to do the TCNJ honors program, but does not give me a definitive reason. We toured Norsworthy Hall (the honors dorms) Saturday and they are quite nice. Anyone with any insight on the pros and cons of TCNJ’s honors program?

@emeltr

Honors info: https://honors.tcnj.edu/

My DD was admitted into the honors programs. She lived in the honors dorm freshman year and took the honors FSP (Freshman writing class). After that she didn’t really do anything else.
So if he is at all interested in honors dorm as opposed to the towers, he should accept the honors program for now He is not required to finish it. If he puts effort into it, he can get a lot out of it.

@bopper
Do you know anything about the Women in Leadership and Learning (WILL) program? My daughter was invited to apply. She just decided a few days ago that she is going to go to TCNJ, so now she needs to respond to this and the honors program. We are thrilled with her decision as some of her other schools were not very generous on scholarships and we don’t qualify for much need based. She originally applied just because my husband went to TCNJ, back when it was Trenton State. They went to admitted students day last weekend and she loved it!

I don’t but honestly any of these programs gives a chance to get to really know your cohort and get more individualized attention from Professors… all very good things

@Ollypop I don’t know specifics, but I know someone whose daughter is a freshman in WIL and from what I hear, she loves it. I believe she got to move in early as part of WIL. She was in the same dorm as the honors students. Seems like she has made a lot of friends through it.

@Sparky
That is great to hear! She is filling out all the paperwork today (deposit, applications etc). So different this time around! My older daughter (junior at Loyola) chose school and major much earlier in the game… less stress on me. This one thinks biology but maybe global/international… loves almost all schools we looked at… indecisive!

@bopper thank you for your honors perspective, it started a conversation that led to his decision to accept the offer for the program. @Ollypop Congrats, us here too! Sent in deposit, it’s a relief. Both my older ones had decided much earlier, it seems more stressful to wait til April.

@Ollypop. My daughter (who’s now a junior) was also invited to apply to WILL as part of her acceptance to TCNJ. I suspect she was invited because her essay was about gender equality. In any case, she declined (can’t remember why), however she has since joined the campus Anti-Violence Initiative (https://oavi.tcnj.edu/home/). AVI members act as educators and counselors for other students on the subject of sexual assault and domestic violence. There’s a somewhat rigorous process to get accepted and there’s training required, but my daughter absolutely loves it and she feels like she is making a difference.

I mention this because if your daughter is looking to get involved and make a difference, she might want to consider AVI. I’m not associated with AVI or TCNJ in any way, but I can testify to the effect that my daughter’s involvement has had on her and it’s fantastic.

@ekdad212 Thank you for the information. She ended up applying to Honors Program, WILL and Bonners, but doubt she will get into all of them! She has been in Girl Scouts for 13 years and did her Gold Award on Cultural diversity and acceptance and I am guessing that is why she was asked to apply. I will tell her about the AVI opportunity as well. She is an incoming biology major, so not sure how much time she will have and likely she is going to need to pick one or two things! I really appreciate your first hand comments on your daughter’s experience!

@debbdowner , I remembered you said your daughter really liked Montclair but was waitlisted. I’m sure you already made your plans, but if you didn’t, I wanted to let you know my daughter just withdrew her acceptance from Montclair’s nursing program so there’s a spot open. My daughter’s first choice (West Chester) also waitlisted her, but they just offered her a spot last week and she’s accepted it!

I was waitlisted for their EOF program. Do you guys know by when I can expect an update?

Same here I was waitlisted for the Finance program does anybody know when we will find out?

Hi! I received a call from them yesterday and was removed from the waitlist for their EOF program. Have you shown continued interest in the past few days?

@ktaveras468 Congrats! How can I show interest to them?
