The portal just updated with major. We are thrilled! Where do you see merit?
DD just received e-mail acceptance - said to check the portal. Letter stated that she was accepted to her major (journalism/technical writing) with $10,000 per year renewable scholarship. We are out of state (PA).
D’s portal updated with the acceptance letter to nursing major and a $5000 merit scholarship (in state). Any idea if honors invites come later?
@jdcollegedad hope so!
Good morning. My son was accepted this morning as an OOS student in the school of engg. The scholarship was 10k a year. That was disappointing, they invited us this summer to pitch it to OOS students and mentioned that they would offer larger scholarships.
@HSinLI I understand that you were hoping for more, but are you looking at the net COA for OOS? My older son goes to UD for engineering and the COA before merit for engineering is pushing $50k with their tuition differential. It takes nearly twice as much merit to get to the same net price as TCNJ with $10k.
S accepted. in state. 34 ACT. 4.3 gpa. $8k merit
D accepted today! Got an email to check the portal around 11:00. Letter of acceptance posted in the portal.
SAT 1420, GPA 3.6 (No merit) Congrats to those accepted! Good luck to those still waiting…
Happy TCNJ Alum Mom
Thanks for the heads up, folks: my D checked and she was accepted. ? In state, 1330 SAT, 4.2 weighted GPA. No merit but still the cheapest option.
honors invite comes later. some will automatically be accepted to H, others invited to apply
DS accepted for humanities and social sciences via portal update. In state; 1380 SAT & unweighted GPA of 93.25. Varsity athlete, community service
My D was accepted today, Early Childhood Ed./Sociology. In-state 1360 SAT, 3.8 GPA. Happy she was accepted, but she already decided and committed to WCU Pa.
To those who have received decisions: when did you apply? My daughter applied 11/19 and transcripts were sent by school 11/21 and SAT score on 11/27.
Just wondering from any of the kids/parents who are leaning towards attending TCNJ–do you think there’s enough to do on campus or on the weekends? I just look at the area and think my kid will be bored.
@jennmom13 , my daughter applied around the same time as yours and received her acceptance yesterday (we are OOS - PA).
@chowbellanj , my daughter was accepted and probably will decline. While we really like the program at TCNJ, she didn’t love the location, the dorms and “campustown” really wasn’t too exciting. In particular, I had a bad taste in my mouth when we did a tour of the towers dorms. It was dirty at the time and our tour guide mistakenly took us on the wrong floor for the tour. There were huge murals painted in the corridors, including a very large, lewd sexual symbol outside of one room that was degrading to women. Our guide was embarrassed and quickly redirected us. Now obviously stupid things like this go on at all colleges but it was just one more thing that added to the vibe that this just wasn’t for her. Too bad because it all looked great on paper until we visited.
@jennmom13 D applied in early October and was part of the first wave.
@chowbellanj The 1st year retention rate at TCNJ is 94%, which points to student satisfaction. That said, most of the feedback that I have heard from students and graduates has been very positive. FYI, there is a separate TCNJ thread that discusses whether TCNJ is a suitcase college and how students occupy themselves on weekends.
Thanks for the feedback! This is helpful. I will check out other thread(s). Anyone else NOT hear back and applied as early as November? My daughter has 3.85 GPA unweighted and 1270 SAT. I know it could be a while per their website timeline. We’ve packed our patience and it gives us time to research and think (overthink?)
I appreciate any additional feedback.
@JennMom My son submitted at the end of October and hasn’t received notice yet. With a 1560 and a ~95 UWGPA, we feel his chances are up there. So maybe his major hasn’t come out yet or something. My first was accepted with similar stats but different major.
@chowbellanj What appeals to each student is different, but I know one recent grad, a senior and a 1st year and all love it there. I share your concern but look to their experiences and the retention rate as very positive signs.
I don’t mean to sound ignorant but I had no idea TCNJ was so competitive… This thread shows people with very high scores/stats albeit not all will attend. I know my daughter’s SAT score is not great (1270) but with her GPA, NHS, Latin NHS, varsity sports including captain, work experience, volunteering, I’m hoping she is seen as well rounded.
Is there anyone that got admitted/declined with similar stats?
