TCNJ vs NJIT vs Rowan for engineering

Hello
Accepted to NJIT, TCNJ and Rowan for civil engineering.
Does anyone has any input as to the pros and cons of each school?
Love TCNJ's campus and I know it's a great school, NJIT has the reputation and Rowan offered a lot of scholarship money and their engineering department is "state of the art"

Hi, Nicksman. First, check my old post “Why Rowan” on this site. It’s held up.

My son graduates with a CEE degree from Rowan this May. NJIT is good, but small. My son didn’t want to go to a school smaller than his HS. Also didn’t like the urban setting, although we are frequent visitors to NYC via the Jersey City or Hoboken PATH.

Rowan is head and shoulders above TCNJ for engineering. TCNJ is a good school, no doubt about it. But here’s what I found (personally and from my son):

TCNJ’s buildings and facilities have a great, brick & ivy FACADE. But inside, where the students will spend their time learning, it’s no better (and sometimes not as good) as Rowan. On weekends, it’s more likely that TCNJ or Rutgers-Camden or Stockton students will visit their friends at Rowan than vice versa. What stands out is that Rowan is a big school with a small-school feel. You get to know everybody, if you want.

Hi SpacemanEd

Thank you for your input. I agree TCNJ is not know for their engineering program. I do like the school though (My brother goes there, although not for engineering). I don’t like NJIT’s campus either, but I’m trying to not let that influence me.
I haven’t visited Rowan yet. We plant to visit next Saturday. So far Rowan seems like a good choice. They have a great reputation for engineering and that’s the most important thing. Thanks for your help

So we did a lot of research regarding the engineering programs in all three schools. Rowan is way ahead of TCNJ (no surprise) but also ranked far above NJIT for engineering!!
(according to US News and World Report)

TCNJ is a beautiful school but the campus can be a little boring on the weekends. NJIT is cold and boring (my opinion) and you can’t leave the campus, so you’re stuck. Rowan’s campus seems warm and exciting. Their engineering building is amazing!!

Rowan is a “no brainer” for me. Can’t wait for September :)

Congrats. Good shopping job.

And to add my 2 cents. TCNJ looks great but costs a little more (3-5k). For my S Rowan offered some amazing money to our Engineering offer making going there a “no-brainer”. 20k off tuition brings Rowan down to 14k for him year one, and onward if he gets a 3.0. TCNJ didnt offer near that.

Cant wait for the Rowan future!

If you’re considering the schools based on the surrounding area, stop. Glassboro, the University Heights section of Newark, and Ewing are all crapholes in their own unique ways. If you go to Rowan, you’re near Philly. If you go to NJIT, you’re near NYC. If you go to TCNJ, you’re near Trenton. What does this have to do with anything? Nothing really. If a recruiter has heard of one of these schools, they probably have heard of the other two.

Academically, all are very strong schools. New Jersey is blessed to have a strong public education system. As far as engineering goes: NJIT is the most “established”, Rowan is up-and-coming, and TCNJ isn’t a school that you think of when you hear “engineering” (their education program is top-notch, though).

Try visiting. Get a feel for the schools.
