Teach for America 2016 Corps

@TFA2016AJ That’s great to hear! In your webinar did they use video too or just chat/microphone? The webinar itself sounds like it must have been pretty interesting! I think @shellijax223 's advice will work for all of us- deep breathing exercises are the way to go! I would just love if virtual interviews could receive results faster, but i’m almost positive it’s all on the same timeline…at least I haven’t seen anything that says otherwise. We will all be anxiously waiting together!

@TFA2016LD So the webinar was a conference call with video accompanying it. There was a virtual presentation- almost like a PowerPoint and then there was a chat feature where all of the participants & presenters could chat while information was being discussed via phone. Afterwards, we were able to vocally ask questions via the conference call, but most of us opted to use the chat feature to type the question & one of the presenters would answer via the phone. There was an option for video, but I never enabled mine (I wasn’t dressed haha) so I am not sure how that aspect worked.

@TFA2016AJ Thanks for the info!!! I’ve taken online classes, but this is just such a different layout! I watched the final interview prep this week and that definitely helped a lot too…it will be a new experience for sure! They made it very clear that for the final to dress professional because the video will be on the whole time… good to know!

Final Interviews for the fourth deadline begin tomorrow. Best of luck to those with interviews actually on tomorrow! For those of you lurking, I hope you join us and share your interview experience. I know you guys will do well!!!

Final interview: complete! I did the virtual interview and was a little nervous about it, but it went very smooth for everyone in my session. Now the three weeks of waiting begins! Good luck to all those in the final interview days, and to everyone who completed the day already!

did anyone else’s final interviewer talk to them a bit about where they wanted to be placed and what they wanted to teach casually in the interview room after all of the typing was over? I’m wondering if I should read into this or if it’s just a pleasantry all interviewers do

@ADTFA2016 No they did not. I think I would feel way more confident if they did.
How did you feel about how you did through the whole process?

I know that I will be rejected. I’m very disappointed in myself. My lesson was the least interactive and boring. Everyone else just blew me away. One of my recommenders did not submit a recommendation. My gpa is a measly 2.8. My one on one was pretty sad. The interviewer seemed uninterested in me. Through it all, I’m very happy that I at least got so far in the process.

Sending you all good thoughts. I hope you all make it and make a real difference!

@ADTFA2016 I would take that as something good! My one on one had basically the exact same questions as my phone interview until the very end, she asked in the last five minutes if I had any questions or anything else to say and that was it! I would also feel more confident if we had talked about region or placement at all- good luck!!

@mathnanc Don’t give up yet! Even making it to the final interview shows potential, many components weigh into the final decision! If there’s one thing about TFA that seems to be true is that they are surprising in selection- I thought I did horrible on the phone interview and I’m still here as well! Nothing final until March 17th  Hoping good things for you!

@mathnanc You probably did really well! Also, don’t be put off by your GPA, you made it to the final interview! That means they definitely saw potential in you and know that you can more than likely be placed somewhere. I’m sending good vibes your way!

@mathnanc I wouldn’t count yourself out just yet! The final interview is only one portion considered for acceptance, along with your online activity, phone interview, application, etc. Think positive!

Yeah I agree with the others @mathnanc there’s no way to actually tell what they’re looking for you might be very surprised! Those interviews start mad early they could’ve just been tired don’t read too much into it! Also congrats to everyone who has finished their interviews already and good luck to those who’s are coming up soon! Mine is tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow @shellijax223! You sound super prepared for it, so I’m sure it’ll be great!

Good luck tomorrow @shellijax223 !! Sending positive thoughts your way!

5th Deadliners and Future Applicants:

Arrive early! Many of us chatted before the sample lessons took place and it made it SO much easier to present. My two interviewers did not seem really bothered when people did not complete their lesson, but I will admit it was awkward when people did not even get to their activity. ALSO, PLEASE triple check your lesson. Someone in my group was doing a math lesson and did it wrong. I don’t even mean making a simple addition or subtraction error, I mean teaching us the lesson COMPLETELY wrong. The interviewers’ faces made me feel ashamed for the candidate. Also, it shows if you did not prepare. There were people that went above and beyond and had props and all with them while others simply used the white board. They very well may have intended that, but amongst the others, it was underwhelming. While it is not a competition, it is hard to make a lasting impression if you are outshined by others.

The group activity can be awkward you guys haha. I was the ONLY one in my group with my opinion and I had to consistently defend why I felt the way I felt. It even came up in my one on one and after I finished expressing all of my viewpoints, my interviewer actually agreed with me!

There were times I felt discouraged during my one on one- but at the end of it, I was singing to another tune. My interview was scheduled for 40 minutes and it went over! I actually noticed the time and had to tell my interviewer we were cutting into another applicant’s scheduled time slot. Our conversation was just that good. My interviewer even asked if they could give me a hug afterwards. I say this to say- don’t let any questions or stumbled answers get you down so much you bomb the rest of the one on one. You never know where the convo may lead to turn it around so just keep pushing, There were times I felt my answer was not good, or my point was not articulated well so I filled the awkward silences while my interviewer typed with further elaboration to clean it up.

I hope all of the 4DLs interviews were amazing. Can’t wait until March 17th. I’ve been so TFA obsessed since Nov/Dec, it will be nice to finally figure out if my journey will continue or not.

Hey Everyone! I also submitted my application for the 4th deadline (Jan. 15th). I skipped the phone interview and had my final (virtual) interview on Feb. 25th. My Top Choices are; Memphis (which is where I currently reside), Nashville, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta. I actually majored in Elem. Ed in college but did not certify. My final interview went great in my opinion but just concerned that I don’t have enough leadership experience but hoping my educational background, gpa, volunteering, recommendation letters will shine through! I submitted my TF documents this past Saturday, Feb. 27th. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! #MARCH17

Greetings! I have submitted my application for the 4th deadline as well. I skipped straight to the final interview, so I am hoping that’s a good sign. From what I have seen in older threads is that the majority of people who skipped to the final interview were ultimately accepted. Is there any truth to this? Also, I am curious if anyone can shine new light on the transitional fund switching to ‘YES’. How long after the final interview can I expect to see anything change or have they changed it to where it says ‘Under Review’ until the acceptance/rejection day?

I am really hoping to receive one of my first choice locations of Washington DC, Nashville, or Boston. Any ideas on how selective DC will be this late in the cycle? Any information helps. Thanks and good luck to everyone!!!

Hey @93Polarbear ! I have no new information but have been reading all the past posts I can about what to expect…it seems that most transitional funding status started to change after the TF due date (3/4 in our case). I saw a few people comment that it seems to go in order by last name, but don’t know how accurate that it! Based on previous years, it looks like generally (of those that posted) it took 5-8 days after the due date of TF/the final interviews to see a change, all the way up to the morning of! I read over and over that they seem to know pretty quickly who is accepted or not, so after the last days of interviews (today?) we should (hopefully!!!) start seeing some changes!
I’m hoping whoever sees a change in their TF status first will let us know  I’ve already been checking it multiple times a day out of being so anxious for a sign!

@TFA2016LD Okay great! Thank you. I won’t worry about it until after the March 4th deadline then. Any ideas on if it is significantly harder to receive a highly preferred region such as DC in the later deadlines?

@93Polarbear Haha that’s my plan! Its driving me crazy not seeing a change already, but I feel like the large majority of people didn’t see a change until after that due date…as soon as the 4th comes i’m sure ill be checking hourly! As for regions, I honestly have no idea…I feel like I read somewhere that they try to keep it relatively fair across deadlines (so its not a absolute no for any region), but I honestly haven’t asked anyone about this from TFA. I think as long as its one of your regions that you “match” up with the best, anything can be possible! I wouldn’t count out the chance of getting into DC yet
