Teach For America 2021 Corps

@abbysm99 I did go! I wasn’t able to record it on zoom because they wouldn’t give me permission. I am so sorry :frowning:

But…it was alright. All they did was talk about teaching specifically. Very little about being a corps member. It was geared towards what teaching looks like, and you can always watch a YouTube video over what teaching is like. I honestly know a lot of teachers so I didn’t take anything away from it.

There is one thing I did know. They said we should know about our decision around 2-3 pacific standard time!

@abbysm99 @CalebClark349 48 hour countdown! How is everyone feeling?

no worries! I kinda figured that would be the case anyway. And no, I did not know 2/3, my recruiter said to expect it later, around dinner time. Haha that makes me nervous, I’m at work all day Monday and leave around 5pm so I was hoping it actually would be later in case I get bad news so I can get out of there. But I’m actually feeling pretty confident! still very nervous :confounded: I have so much work to do for finals and this has me so distracted

Was there a lot of people at the event? because when I went to the pre-interview zoom calls it was like under 30 people.

Are you pacific standard time?

Haha this is my finals week too and I am much more distracted by this then what my grades are going to be

There was quite a few people on the call, around 60.

Oh wait I’m sorry that was so dumb, I am EST time so that is around 4/5PM for me.

@abbysm99 AHHH! Lol. Then yeah you should know around 2-3. But also, I have heard the website updates much quicker than before they send out the email. I have also heard the email just tells you to check the website.

So… either way you could wait until you get off of work to check the website if you want.

Lol! I have central standard time so we are only 1 hour apart! Woo!

Every day is passing so slowly, Sunday and Monday are going to be torture haha, I really need to know! Sending good luck to everyone!

Hi y’all,

I forced myself to stay away from my laptop this weekend, so I wouldn’t be tempted to check everything lol Very nervous, but excited to finally get a yes or no. Good luck to both of you if I am not able to get on before! @abbysm99 @mrs13g

@mrs13g @CalebClark349 Guys they’re up!!! I got in to my first choice Rhode Island, middle/high school English

@abbysm99 YAY! I am so happy you got in! I was accepted also but got my fifth choice :frowning: It is true when they say if you put high needs region relatively high you are going to automatically receive it.

The great news is I got elementary school which is awesome! SO HAPPY we both got in! Woo!

@mrs13g yay congratulations!!! and yeah I feel like thats why you definitely got your 5th choice. What was your 5th choice again? would you consider teaching there? I know my recruiter said there is some flexibility in reassigning regions, you could definitely reach out to them and request a reassignment, especially now that you know you are in  (and because it is earlier in the admission cycles)

@abbysm99 My fifth choice was Tulsa Oklahoma. I am happy because I have some things there (a church) that is pulling me in that direction. BUT… its not my first which makes me a-little sad. Im going to accept… just considering whether I should ask for reassignment or not.

Have you decided whether you are going to accept?

I would say it’s definitely worth requesting the reassignment (I was going to do it if I got in and not into the region I wanted/same with subject), the worst thing they can say is no! I will most likely accept, I got my first choice on everything and TFA is exactly what I want to do. I probably won’t accept until after the “Celebrate” event, I want to sleep on it for a little bit and not make any rash choices, even though I have been thinking this over for months now lol! The only thing I’m nervous about is my subject placement, it says “English with flexibility for Special Ed”. Now I have no problem teaching Special Ed but it wasn’t really my top choice, and I feel like I am not adequately prepared to teach Special Ed. I just want to make sure it truly means “flexibility” and not that I will be a full-time Special Ed teacher.

@abbysm99 @mrs13g Congrats y’all! I’m so excited to see you guys got in! I got accepted as well! I was placed in the Houston region which is where I am from. Very excited about that. Would have loved to be placed in a region outside of Texas, but I know it will be helpful to be in Houston when I’m starting a new career. I can always move once I get some experience under my belt. Also very excited to finally know and not have to be anxious all the time! L O L

Yes!!! Congratulations to you! I am so happy we all made it guys! What a great thread, despite how few of us, lol. Glad my anonymous applicant peers I met through this forum also have been accepted  What subject did you get @CalebClark349 ?

Hhh

@abbysm99 @CalebClark349 I too am really happy to hear that we all got in! Is everyone going to TFA celebrate tonight?

I will be! super excited!
