Teacher Rec from Sophomore Year?

I got an A+ from my AP Euro Hist teacher soph year, and I plan on concentrating in the Social Sciences/Government in college. I would ideally get a history rec from junior year but my teacher doesn't like me as much, whereas my sophomore teacher absolutely loves me and we have a real human connection. But I hear that adcoms have the general attitude that soph recs can be outdated or lacking in detail. Well, I know that the soph rec in my case will be very detailed, but is the whole "outdated" attitude true, even if a rec from my junior/senior year reflects taht my work ethic/personality remains stellar?

First check the schools you’re applying to and be sure they don’t have restrictions on what year the teacher has to have taught you.

If there aren’t any, go ahead and use the soph teacher, for two reasons: they’re your strongest LOR and they taught you in an AP course. The main reason colleges like to see jr year teachers is because the level of the coursework is higher (sr yr can be a problem due to the short time a teacher has known a student), but since it was an AP course, that’s a non-issue.

Both of my Ds used a soph AP teacher and both were accepted to highly selective colleges.

My D had her AP Bio teacher from 10th grade write a rec (11th grade AP science teacher left and 12th grade takes AP science class was online)…so it was her best bet (being a prospective science student). If it’s an AP course in your prospective area …then yes. Just make sure the 2nd one comes from a more recent teacher.

thanks you two!
