Teacher Recommendation

Hey guys:
If I plan to attend a UC like Berkeley or UCLA how would I get a good recommendation for medical school?

The same way everyone else ddoes-by taking the time to get to know several of your profs. You do this by going to office hours, chatting w/them after classes, working as lab assts for them. You should also do well in their classes, attend class regularly and ask intelligent, interesting questions on the material should the opportunity present itself.

While it’s harder to make personal connection with your professors at a large school, it’s not impossible.

What if you don’t stand out grade-wise but is interested in the subject? Can er just ask them if there are research opportunities with them?

Yes. You can even ask profs who have never taught you about research opportunities.

My son, during the winter break of his freshman year, went through the department websites at his school searching for interesting research activities and sent an e-mail to a professor. The professor responded immediately offering him a position. He has been there for the last 2 years. He got a first author published paper out of it that he presented at a conference. Another one is in the pipeline.

Thanks for the replies! Will keep this in mind.
