Teacher Recommendations & HS Study Abroad

Hello Everyone - My daughter will be returning in two weeks (YAY) after having been in Japan for over 300 days having the most amazing experience of her life. I know this is ridiculous, but I am already starting to worry about college applications in the fall. As she has definitely not had a traditional HS experience, one and a half years in her local HS and eight weeks in on-line HS to finish her sophomore year math, English, science and civics requirements before leaving for Japan. Now, she will be going back to her local HS one month into the spring semester. That is a long-winded way of saying that she really has no relationship with any of her teachers. As she will probably be applying to Questbridge and if not selected, applying somewhere EA, she will have to pick teachers for her recommendations from her junior year, Any thoughts on this? Should I just relax and hope that she builds a relationship with one of her teachers in the next four months? What are your thoughts about asking her liaison in Japan to write a recommendation? She is Japanese and did a study abroad program in the US many years ago. She told me that the Japanese HS that my daughter attended this past year is going to take two exchange students next year because of my positive experience they had with my daughter. I believe that she has a fairly high opinion of my daughter and could write a letter in English.

Any thoughts?

I’d definitely get the liaison in Japan to write a letter, since they will be able to talk at length about the fantastic experience she had. And then see which teachers she connects with best in the next four months to get another letter or two.

@SMMom1 - Thank you for your input.

Also have her cultivate a relationship with a teacher in a core subject…she could meet with them during office hours and talk about her experiences in Japan.
