Teacher Recs : College Conselour is Teacher Reccomendation?

I'm a Junior, and I'm confused about these college recommendation letters. I have two teachers who I think know me pretty well, but one of them is a college counselor. There is a guidance counselor in the school as well, but for the purpose of College Recommendations, does the college counselor write a recommendation, or does the guidance counselor? If it is the college counselor, can he also be my teacher recommendation?

…Can’t believe I spelled Counselor wrong in the title…

Who writes the GC rec is best asked of your school. If your college counselor writes the rec, he should not be one your teacher recommendations.

Eh, you spelled recommendation wrong as well. :)

Goddamnit. Wait you referred to it as the GC rec. So then it’s meant for the Guidance Counselor? I have a Guidance Counselor who can write it.

Like I said, ask your school. I called it a “GC rec” because that is what it is called on the common app. It may vary by school, but from my experience, in schools that have both college counselors and guidance counselors, the college counselors work with students on college selection and applications, helps with proofing essays, makes sure packets are complete, but the Guidance Counselor writes the recommendation. It may be different at your school.

First off, I would like to thank you for the chuckle I got from the title and your surprise.
Secondly, your GC writes his or her own recommendation and you’ll have to find 2 other teachers to write their own recommendations as well if you apply via the common app.
Is the college counselor a private one? Or is that something your school offers? I would go talk to your GC about this.

Teacher recommendations are from teachers who know you from a classroom setting. GC/CC letter is to help fill in the blanks, explain certain special situations, etc. In my experience the CCs have much more experience in knowing what the colleges want, so they write the letters. They may consult with the GC in preparing the letter.

On CC, GCs are much more common than CCs, so they are generically referred to as GCs, but if you have a specialist at your school specifically for college applications, by all means they are the person to use.
