Teacher recs -- Common App vs. Unique App

My D received "yes" from the two teachers she wanted recommendations from. That's great as they don't write them for many kids and they are known for their kids getting into touch schools.

I'm remaining a bit confused on how recs work, though.

One of the teachers said that she'd be happy to do it but that schools using the common app were easiest for her and that she couldn't write recommendations for more than 3 or 4 schools. So does that mean she would write one recommendation for all schools using the common app and then perhaps a few that lay outside of that? For example, Georgetown does not use the common app....so I suppose that means she'd have to write a unique rec for them...am i right about this? My D's current plan is a mixture about approx. 10 schools...safeties and stretches (8 are common app, 2 use their own apps)

thanks!

No. She would write one LOR which could be applied to all schools, and then she would submit them.

Correct. I’ve been told by a few teachers and other adults that in the years before the Common App, when the earth’s mantle was still cooling, that teachers would Xerox the LOR and write “please see attached” to the school’s form.

Thanks folks…so now D plan to ask her teacher why she’s liked the limit the number of schools…one theory we had last night (and this is a teacher who gets her kids into top 20 schools) is that she might take the extra step and shape the recommendation to the school. For example two of her kids got into georgetown this year…and it could be that she spend time thinking about that particular student in that particular school (which, btw, is why so many kids want her to write them…and why she only steps up for a few of them…)
