teacher/school official/EC recs

Ok Bearcats - since you have such close, easy access to an admissions counselor, perhaps you can help us solve the old debate about which part of the application carries the most weight e.g. grades, ssat scores, essays, recs, etc. - or at least that person's view of the admission world. Would be interesting to hear...

is this just me, or does anyone else here feel kinda nervous when they hand off those forms for the teachers to fill out?? idk i find myself acting reeally fake in the days up to the time that i plan to give it to them... >.< ack, i try to stop myself from doing that, its kinda annoying too (but then again my school is kinda different so there IS waay more kid interaction here)

ive been concerned about credibility alot. what if u had an under 18 person write the rec for u?

right here sabregiel....i gave it to them these past two days, and they were astonished to see that i had the intention to leave. my history teacher rejected it since she really really likes me, no joke.

as for the credibility part...unless the officials know how old your 'recommender' i dont think it can do harm.. even if they did, im sure they wont mind depending on how long you knew the person

okay.

i was just asking because some recs can seem unrealistically good, you know? like, if i were an adcom, i woul be like, "wow. umm.. i don't know. this is intsne".. so whatever. we'll just seee.

It's obviosly positive if they write a postive rec....

my teachers showed me what they wrote and sent it out themselves.
My english teacher's is incredibly personal all top 10% and a few the top I've ever seen. she even added a long personal letter.
my math teacher's isnt personal at all he just ranked me academically and I've got all "best I've ever seens".
and for 2 schools, i have sent in an art rec and its just like.. an "above average" rec (I dont talk to the art teacher at all...)
would they see that as a little.. off?

..this is why i asked in the first place.

they may see that as you being a great student in math and english but not so in art (not that you're a bad one in art, just maybe more.. into your art and not talking to the teacher).

she's one of those young teachers and likes to talk to the really energetic kids. therefore, most kids dont finish their assignments.
i hope they see that?? she said I should be in AP art next year (im in art I because my school requires me to take it first) hmm

you'll be fine.

I didn't really worry too much, because I know that my teachers all like me pretty well, and some really, really like me. It was really funny, though, because my one of my fencing instructors is writing me a letter of recomendation, and she kept teasing me, whenever we were doing footwork and I wasn't doing it right, saying "I haven't sent the letters of recomendation yet", to try to get me work harder. :D
