I have played on a few soccer teams during my high school career, and my team has advanced far in many tournaments (including HS). Is it fair to put those "awards" on my app? For example: state cup finalist etc? I think they are fairly important in showing the intensity and competitiveness of the team, but I don't know how colleges will view this.

i did on mine and suggest you do to. It shows the intensity and how competitive you really were. Mine was for tennis though, which is an individual sport anyway but I would still put it down.

bump.....it never really crossed my mind that I could count team awards before so I want to know if it's "okay" in the eyes of admissions officers.....

I say go for it. If your team votes you for MVP then you should put that on your application or if you guys are state champs you should definitely show that off.

what about a 'participation' award? i got 2 since i've been on the team 2 years in a row now, except it's called "Athletic Excellence Award," will colleges be fooled by the name? Not that i'm dishonest.

You get an award just for being on the team? Wow. If it is called that though, then go for it.
