Teen Minority Entrepreneur

Hi,

I go to an elite school in Maryland, whose students generally go on to great schools. I was wondering if someone can give me some insight as to how realistic admission to an Ivy League in--in my particular case.

I'm a rising junior.

I had a cumulative 3.28 in 9th grade and a 3.52 in 10th grade--an upward trajectory.
I hope to have at least a 3.7 this upcoming year. This year I'll be taking AP English, AP US History, and AP Music

I am African-American and own one of the most lucrative minor-owned business in the state. I am also on the board of Kids Helping Needy Kids, Inc., a charitable organization to which I give much of my time and energy. I am a 3-year U.S. Congressional intern. (I started summer before my freshman year--without any special connections)I am also actively involved in the SGA--I am VP of the student body.

So, with my extra curricular activites, estimated 3.5 cumulative, and a hopefully high SAT score, will I get in to an Ivy League school? Perhaps I'll even to early decision!

Thanks so much!

Your application has some strong aspects- Your extracurriculars are solid, showing ability to contribute to your community, and being a minority never hurts  However, your gpa and courseload may cause some Ivy league admissions officers to raise their eyebrows.

The upward trend in your gpa is helpful, but you might want to look at the recent decisions thread to see where you fit relative to acceptees.

Many ECs and a low gpa may send a message that you need to work on your time management. My advice would be not to hope for a 3.7, but to get a 4.0. Carry your upward trend all the way to the top, and then the admissions officers may look at you in a more favorable light.

I have a feeling i know what school (or which one of several) you are referring to, and a 3.5 will not cut it for the very top schools, still. Ivy league is very unlikely.

Thank you for your response! I will try to solidify my GPA this year and prepare well for the SAT. That was extremely helpful and uplifting! :)

Remember, there is no Early Action or Early Decision at Harvard or Princeton.
