Tell Admissions About Other Schools?

Hello all!

I was recently waitlisted from Harvard, but had the luck to be accepted into Yale and Princeton. Although I love the two schools, Harvard has always been my dream school and I’m determined to get off the waitlist.

I plan to update the admissions committee with additional information, and along with the new awards I’ve won since I applied, I’m thinking of letting them know that I’ve been accepted to Y and P, and that I would choose Harvard over them if I was accepted.

So, my question is: Is this a good idea? I know colleges see interest/yield-rates as important, but I’m worried about coming across as crass. Should I just leave the stuff about the other schools out?

Thanks in advance!

“Should I just leave the stuff about the other schools out?” Yes. Just update H on your awards.

Also, as an aside, I think Y and P are better than H for undergrad…

Do not tell Harvard about the other schools.

You should start picking between Yale and Princeton and buy the sweatshirt.

You can tell Harvard that you are still very interested and would 100% attend if admitted.

But start getting your mind around the places you HAVE been admitted to.

Last year or the one before, Harvard didn’t take anyone off the waitlist. They have to see how many students enroll.

You have great options. Love the school that loves you back. Don’t plan on getting off the L; if you do end up getting off, then great.

If you tell Harvard that you were accepted to YP, you should expect a version of the following response: “We wish you the best of luck at Yale/Princeton.”
