My son was just accepted for engineering. We are planning on visiting over Spring Break and we are from Northern Virginia. He got deferred from his first choice (Virginia Tech) and are now considering other options. He loves college football and I know he would love that aspect of Ohio State. Any advice is welcome. TIA
It’s among the most highly respected research universities in the US, and its engineering department is top notch. Columbus will have more to offer than Blacksburg, weather should be about the same I’d imagine. Hope you have a good experience at your school visit!
My daughter is a freshman, from MA. (not engineering) She loves it! She was looking for the big football team / big school spirit. And she loves the city campus. We love Columbus, lots of great little neighborhoods, but I will say there is crime, as in any city. You just need to be careful.
She loves that there’s a lot of stuff right off campus, and she can get a little further off with a scooter, or even further with a zip car. I really like that the airport is only 15 minutes away, and there are direct flights from Boston.
She’s had mixed results with the student health center. Food options are good, even with her dietary restrictions. She has probably one of the worst dorms on campus, but it’s ok. No AC, no kitchen. Miserably hot the first few weeks, but she made it through.
It is a big university, but it’s fairly well organized. Their website has tons and tons of information.
Thank you so much. We are looking forward to our visit.
