@GRITS80 - that post of yours puts everything else in perspective. So many thanks to your son for risking his life so the rest of the world will feel safer.
My D2 was accepted into a biomedical research summer program, housing and stipend included!!!
@hrh19, @BunsenBurner - thank you for the kind words. We are very proud of him and his service even though it has led to some sleepless nights for us. But none of that compares to what the troops go through. I’m in awe of what they are prepared to deal with on a moment’s notice.
I was going to post the same thing about the staff at my son’s apartment! I dropped him off this morning after his 26-day hospital stay. When S left the room, the staff member said, “I’ve been at this location for awhile now, and I’ve never seen your son looking this good. I’m so happy for him!” It IS a blessing to know that kind people are looking out for him.
Woohoo!!! =D> :D/
I’m celebrating because the day I thought would never come - came this past Saturday!!!
The 40-year-old sports car (yes, you read that right - 1978 Datsun 280z) that has been residing in my garage for the past 18 years (yeah, 18 whole years) has finally left the building! Packrat H accepted $500 from this really nice classic car enthusiast for his, again 40-year-old dream car that hasn’t been started since the year 2000. I seriously thought I would have to deal with that car after H passed away (because I’m definitely outliving him). Finally, there is space in the garage. Now, how to prevent H from filling up that free space with more stuff…
Quick—Park the card in the garage!
Awesome!!
If you don’t have a car to park there, reclaim it as your gym space! A couple of yoga mats and an exercise ball.
Or your craft or hobby room or your spare—— room. Start marking that space pronto!
After years of living in a tiny studio apartment in NYC my S moved into a (small) 1BR. He said it is great to get out of bed and not hit the kitchen table LOL.
He got the internship! It’s not exactly what he wants (not helpful when they tell him in the interview they mostly have menial tasks for the intern) but HE GOT IT and it’s a start!
H has for years and years wanted to take up painting but he didn’t know how – what medium (oil? watercolors? acrylics?) or how to begin. Over Christmas, FDIL, who is an artist, said he should start with acrylics. So for his birthday (early January) I bought him paints, canvases, brushes, and a few other things. I pushed him to sign up for a class at one of our local adult education things. Since early February, he’s been painting every day and is now on his third painting. He is excellent and we plan on hanging some of his work in our house.
And he stays out of my hair for hours and hours on end!!
The Pod is gone!!! The Pod is gone!!! After a pipe bursting on Jan 2nd, we have had a pod on our driveway to hold our furniture until the repairs could be done. 10 days after the furniture came back into the house they FINALLY removed the pod!! I have my driveway back!!! Now, if the good “bringing all the books from upstairs back downstairs” fairy would come in the middle of the night, things would be perfect!!!
We got a check from a client today. It was more than two weeks overdue and we were starting to worry that they weren’t going to pay us. Whoo hoo!
I finally got my mortgage for the garage and in-law apartment. Its been in the works now for two years but between the decrease in hours d/t low census, the loss of two consecutive 2nd part time jobs (very good paying lol) and the end of a marriage it became a major feat. Now for the building permit! Contractor has everything in hand but the town is tough so we shall see…
And… more importantly, D got a summer internship with good pay, housing stipend, near a beach town and only two hours from home.
Yesterday, had an appointment to redo a test to show that yes, I still need supplemental pxygen to exercise because contrary to some weird sci-fi thing someone imagined when creating the rules, damaged lungs don’t mend except for mice (who are different from humans). I had to prepare and bring lots of gear and was pretty exhausted by the end of it but the test clearly showed I need and benefit from using supplemental oxygen.
It sure takes a ton of work to continue getting the care you need and deserve! It really is unnecessary trouble and expense but one must to jump through the hoops.
I also met my lung doctor and he agreed to be one of our speakers again for the 3rd year I’m a row. His APRN agreed to serve on our nonorofit’s board of directors and will help us share info about our organization with their patients! I’m very pleased and feel most fortunate!
Finally! Hopefully, (#&$Q#(%Q#)@(# Anthem BCBS is fixing their error and reprocessing claims that they should have paid!! 6 months of my persistence, documentation of their error, 3 months of some Health Advocate service provided by DH’s employer, and finally the head of Benefits/HR from DH’s self insured company seems to have finally made a difference. One provider told me today that BCBS said they were “reprocessing these claims”. No guarantee that they will do so correctly and pay them, but one can hope. Its a start.
Uh oh… might have spoken too soon…ugh.
I laughed & teared up watching Seth Meyers tell the story of his second son’s birth. Highly recommend. You can find it on YouTube.
