He's in - UPenn '09.
For those who missed my other post to MDMom, GF was deferred.

He came in and looked like he had the weight of the world on him after hearing his GF's news of her Wharton deferral by phone...sat down with a big sigh and logged on. Then he just stared at the screen and I peered over and saw "Congratulations!" I clapped and yelled "you did it!" and hugged him. He shed 1 tear and smiled very slightly and said "I'm happy". Then he read the entire letter and asked me what I thought it was that got him in. I gave him his package (the hoodie, bear, etc). He took the Penn shirt off of the bear and said he will give it to his GF. He asked me for money and off he went....to her house....and said he hopes she was joking.

I wish he could have been happier.

Thank all of you parents for all of your support and encouragement. I came here less than a year ago without a clue. And now...mission accomplished.
Now I'm off to buy champagne for myself and will have a glass before I open the fin aid letter :) Next challenge : paying!

momsdream, I never doubted I'd be writing this congratulations! A wonderful school for a wonderful future. Distressing about the girlfriend, especially since it's distracting from your family's ability to celebrate. .but in the wide screen view probably not such a bad development.

Congrats! I felt strongly your S would get in, but I didn't want to jinx him by posting ahead of time! :) It was one of your posts where you described how comfortable he felt with the school. I thought, if his application conveyed half of that feeling of your post - they would take him! :)

congrats momsdream, and enjoy your champagne - i suspect that, sometimes, the parents put themselves through more stress over ED than their kids do! and congrats to your son as well, of course.

It's just now starting to sink in. I don't think I ever shared the quote he used to open his personal essay to Penn....

It's from Ben Franklin...as it is incribed on a statue of Dr. Franklin, depicting him at age 17, as he arrived in Philadelphia. It's one of the most prominent statues of him Penn's campus...

""I have been the more particular in this description of my journey that you may compare such unlikely beginnings with the figure I have since made there."

I still get chills when I read that quote because my it's so fitting of him applying to Penn....

Wow, that is great Momsdream! I am so glad for you! That campus is so gorgeous and extraordinary. I wish him well and say prayers for a great four years. LOVE the quotation from Benjamin Franklin!

wanted to add congrats from Dizzy-family to the list! What will you do with all the extra time you'll have now that you don't have to think about this?

Great news! And now you don't have to worry about returning the $180 worth of Penn stuff, too! Sorry about the girlfriend. Puts a damper on celebrating when a friend doesn't have the same good news.
