Tell me what you think of my list! :)

Okay, so here's some of my basic stats:
Female
Class of '08
Rank 31 out of roughly 750 (top 5% easily)
GPA: 3.7 (Should go up this year, got 2 C's last year that totally killed me, I used to be at 3.89)
SAT: 1670 (before you ask, no I am not retaking this)
ACT: Will take on Oct. 21

Leadership/Offices: PEACE Academy (SLC) treasurer (9th grade), GirlsTalk Co-Chair (9th-11th), PEACE Academy Co-President (12th)

Awards: HOBY Nomination/Runner-Up, Medal of merit nominee in English, 3 different levels of Science awards (6 offered at my school, but they get increasingly difficult to earn as the level increases), Outstanding English Student (grade 9), Outstanding Modern World History Student (grade 10), Scholar Athlete, Most Dedicated Player, Music Letter, Varsity & JV golf letters, Music letter

EC's: Women's Golf for 3 years (I wasn't actually on JV, because we don't
have enough girls for a JV team, I just didn't play in enough matches to be considered a varsity player), involved in school's Spring musical for 4 years (Understudy Junior Year, hopefully Lead Role Senior Year), GirlsTalk Club, Cultural Assembly Committee Member, Choir for 9 years, Musical Theatre for 7, church worship team for 3 years this November.

Community Service: As of right now I have about 93 hours. However it's likely I'll have about 130 by graduation.

APs/Honors: I took APUSH but only got a 2 on the test. I took Accelerated/Honors English for 3 years and took Honors Science this past year.

Okay, so here comes the fun part.
Colleges I'm applying to (In no particular order):
San Francisco State University (first choice)
BIOLA
Cal State Long Beach
Sonoma State University
Maybe Westmont, but I'm not sure
San Diego State
UC San Diego

Are these appropriate for my stats?

No shot at UCSD with a 1670.

Especially since that's the only thing they look at...rolls eyes

Consider it's a UC...yes that is the only thing they look at.

So I could have a 2400 and a 1.0 GPA and they'd let me in.

Please.

Look up the UC gpa formula. It is a combination of GPA and SAT with the weighting down by a very specific formula. UCSD is definitely a reach for you. The others are well within range.

Have you considered any of the other Cal States?

Is financial aid a consideration?

Westmont is a beautiful school and I know some grads who are huge fans of Westmont. There is a strong religious component, which I am guessing by your screen name is okay with you. Is that a must in a school for you? Biola, obviously is also fairly strong in religion. How about Whitman in WA? Are you stuck on SoCal?

Not SoCal so much as California. I'd like to stay in-state because it's so much cheaper.

My parents make good money (just over 100k a year), but they'd like it if I could get at least some financial aid. But need-based is pretty much out.

ebeeeee agrees with me too..

UCSD is a huge reach for you. Still don't have a shot there. No matter how much you argue.

I wasn't arguing that it's a reach. I was arguing that the SAT score is the only thing they look at.

I actually don't even really wanna go there, SFSU and Sonoma State are my first choices.

SAT is 60% of what they look at. maybe 50%.

So then it's not the only thing they look at. :)

Let's get constructive with some other ideas then..
What about the University of the Pacific?

Y'know we took a trip up there when I was a sophomore (woo, 7-hour bus ride...) and I didn't think much of it. It was a nice school and all, but...I dunno. Didn't really strike a chord with me.

I love seeing schools like this... top 5% with a 3.7 and a 1670, while im out of my schools top 20% with a 3.9 and 2040

Yeah, you're obviously WAY better than me.

Do you realize how subjective most of those things are (with the exception of the SAT score)?

Class Rank and GPA depends on a multitude of things, including your difficulty/weight of classes, the size of your class, the competitiveness of your school...the list goes on. Don't flatter yourself by putting yourself on a pedestal.

when did i say that's the only thing they looked at...

and gator is WAY better than you.
