Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2010

My order is Cornell II, Cornell I and UT Austin. I LOVE Vikings and Celts but it is not because I like to dress up like a pirate ever since I was young or I like Pirates of the Caribbean. The program of UT Austin just doesn’t fit my taste according to the description but I still wrote in quite a positive tone in explaining my rationales. Anybody along the same line?

Cross my fingers for SAT, TASP and my final exams. My fingers are so busy but I hope that everything will work out the exact way that I want them to.

I agree completely, happysunshine, and wrote a similarly positive but firm description of why UT Austin is just not a good fit for me. Hopefully we’ll be hanging out at Cornell this summer :)

I submitted early this morning with 17 minutes to spare.
Everyone seems like they had awesome essay ideas- I wish you guys the best of luck!
I was mostly satisfied with my essays, I should have started them earlier, but there’s just no free time with my course load this semester, I’m sure you guys know how it is.
It seems like almost everyone was really satisfied with the conflict essay- this was my best too, and I’m definitely considering using it (or at least the topic) for a college essay.

Ugh- I realized about ten seconds after submitting that I’d forgotten to include periodicals on the booklist…oh well, I listed a lot of books so I hope I’m all right.

Did anyone else use a religious work for their critical analysis?

Haha, but man it feels good to be done with that application.

By the way, my order was UT Austin, Cornell I, Cornell II. But I said if accepted, I would go to any of them.

^
Same. UT Austin, Cornell I, Cornell II.

In order from best to worst: Conflict, Lit Analysis, Topic of Choice, Future…though this seems roughly the same for most people. Lol, I hope they don’t put much emphasis on the ranking, because I just wrote a medium-big paragraph for my first choice, and then only a couple of lines for the other two ( ~ 250 words in all I think).

Cornell II, Cornell I, UT Austin. There are a lot of people with this order :/

Yupyup, exactly!

Crit analysis - Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Pedestrian”

Topic of choice - why literature has just as much intellectual merit as math/science and shouldn’t be looked down on

Conflict - my issues with the physics course/school program I am enrolled in

Future - uncertainty

Cornell II, UT Austin, Cornell I (ugh, so much Cornell II first choice! haha)

Book list - 14 books, 1 magazine (Time), mostly consisting of classic literature read in school

i wanted to put ut austin as my first choice but unfortunately my family wants me to be closer and up in new york…so i was forced to put cornell I as my first choice. but i still really like the idea of cornell I!
i wish there had been an option to just put cornell II as no way instead of as option 3 because i really dont think i’d like to do that for 6 weeks. oh well. we’ll see what happens!
gahhh i cant wait for 1.5 months!

anyone have any suggestions for summer backup plans that are humanities related?

Critical Analysis: Jane Eyre

Topic of Choice: society’s meaningless and irrelevant expectations of people

Conflict: cynical viewpoint

Future: undecided

Cornell II, Cornell I, UT Austin

So, where is everyone from? I live in Pennsylvania.

Hong Kong here! It’s 6am and I need to finish my English presentation, which is in…five hours.

Seems like Cornell II is a love/hate program…the other two seem pretty interesting, but just not as much as mythology. Woah.

Alright, so I wasn’t going to post here because I"m so paranoid about the internet, and I’ll probably delete this post later, but I wanted to know if my topics/lengths seem acceptable. I’m feeling so inferior from looking at everyone else’s topics, hahaha.

Critical Analysis - I focused on the narrator’s emulation of Zorba in Zorba the Greek. I’m kind of worried that I didn’t summarize enough of the plot for the rest of the essay to make sense… ~1250

Topic of Choice - It’s so weird to me that everyone seems to like the conflict essay more, because this was my personal favorite. Discussed the over-prescription of anti-depressants resulting in a society that would rather circumvent problems than solve them. ~1200

Conflict - Talked about my personal struggle with my identity in junior high and how it resulted in transferring schools, and then I wrote about it how I regret some of my actions. Ehh. ~1100

Future Plans - Well, it was… my future plans. Nothing special, except I talked about how my plans to enter Foreign Services influenced my decision to apply for TASP. Nothing special, short. ~780

And the other two were fairly standard, 1)UT Austin 2)Cornell 1 and 3)Cornell II
Thoughts?

Wait, they accept internationals? I thought TASP was only for U.S. citizens and permanent residents…

International here~

Looks like I’m the only one who put Cornell 1 as their first choice. Too bad that doesn’t give me a better chance of getting in lol.

Nah, it was my first choice too. Cornell I, UT Austin, Cornell II here.

I’m so glad I’m done with my apps and two of my hardest finals today.

It started raining here in California again. There’s nothing quite like listening to Regina Spektor drone softly in the background while the rain tap dances on your rooftop.

My order was Cornell I, Cornell II, UT Austin. The latter was the one I said I would rather not go to at all, mostly because of the topic but also because I would rather spend my summer at Cornell (I didn’t put this last bit in there though).

But still, there really is no point right now counting how many people have the same first choice, as a) CC doesn’t represent everyone and b) no one has been accepted yet.

@EricLee- Regina Spektor= amazingness

I really enjoyed writing the essays. Whether or not I get in, applying was definitely worth it.

^ I agree. Even though I did them all in the last three days, I had a lot of fun writing them. And I think I might use some of them on my college apps

Yeah. It was. It was kinda difficult writing so many essays during finals week, but now that it’s all over I feel like something is missing. It’s gonna be a long wait.

I have to admit, I am one of the creepy TASP applicants who just looked at this thread, trying to get help without actually signing up.

After printing my application I went over it. I don’t know how I am ever going to get over spelling “Outstanding” wrong. Ever.
