Telluride Association Summer Programs (TASP) 2016

Hey everyone! I was just wondering when the letters are supposed to come in… I was rejected, but in my email it told me there should be a physical letter coming in. Has anyone received this yet?

@andrerobertmd

I got it. I ripped it into shreds. It felt good.

If you get an interview, your chances of getting in significantly increase, right?

Making it to the interview stage from the original pool of around 1,100 applicants (this year) is roughly a 10% chance. Then, making it into one of the 56 open positions out of 129 people being interviewed is about a 50% chance. So yes, chances are much more likely, statistically. Realistically, there is no real way of knowing if it is more likely or not because the people who make it to the interview stage are typically the most intellectual of the original 1,100. It’s quite a feat to make it to the interview stage but even with the end closer in sight, it’s not any less difficult to get in.

Ok so has anyone had their interview yet? My interview is this Wednesday and I’ve chewed through all my fingernails twice.

I had it! Was super nervous about it. I think I have decent answers at times and flailed other times. My interviewers were very mic and generally forgiving about my awkwardness. To TASP alum, do you have to be very eloquent during the interview?

Nice*

@nullisecunda How hard were the questions they asked? How long did your interview last?

The TASP website (http://tasp.tellurideassociation.org) is down!! Has anyone else noticed??

@Ciella they’ve reformatted the website & it’s at this link now

There were some questions that were easier to answer and there were some really crazy ones as well. Some of the most difficult questions I’ve ever tackled in my life @IneffableMaestro. My interview was about an hour,

@philae Wow thanks so much   you’re a lifesaver! My reference teacher wanted the website haha.

Wow… I just had my interview. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. I went in expecting total armageddon, but at least in my case, it was not like that at all. The interviewers stuck to the essays, book lists, etc. and were really relaxed and informal and encouraging. Here’s hoping.

New to the thread/cc in general. I had my interview the other day. I had three interviewers, and the whole thing was pretty relaxed. I’m kind of just trying to volunteer a lot to distract myself from the wait. I’m also doing a TED talk in a couple of days, so the nervousness stemming from that is sort of overriding the TASP nervousness.

Ya I have a couple of things in quiz bowl that are coming up, so I will hopefully find a way to distract myself from the wait as well.

@IneffableMaestro @solondzcinema Lucky! I’m really jealous of you guys lol…I had two lawyers as my interviewers and they asked me a bunch of random questions, made me argue one side, and then argued the other side and grilled me on any holes in my logic…

There’s no “standard” TASP interview, is what I’m getting from all this! I also had my interview, and the questions were all based on my essays, book list (we only talked about books, not the other media types, which was interesting), and seminar preference!

Good luck to those still in the process, good vibes to everyone else!!

is there any way to tell if an interview went well or not…?

Well @nocando123 that depends. Do you think you made some good points in the interview? Did you feel you were able to give good responses to some of the questions they asked?

@IneffableMaestro to some yes, but to others i felt i could have been more specific and not a broad as i was being… but they never pressured me into repeating my answer or ask it again because i didnt answer it properly so i really dont know…
