I don’t see any reason this would affect merit aid already awarded.
@barrons My son was offered the full tuition scholarship-up to 17 credits- up to 4 years- 8 consecutive regular semesters as long as enrolled full time and maintain a 3.0 … also they offered two $4000 educational stipends for summer abroad or research or internship or other academic activity … ( son turned offer down for Wharton)
But I think they have to honor the scholarships for 4 years as long as students comply w requirements…
Interestingly they changed the selection requirements (made it harder) between the first and second year they offered this also originally was three $ 4000 stipends… but they didn’t change a thing between the second and third year … with this year being the third year
^ very cool program
I was very impressed with Temple when we did the accepted student stuff there.

@Charliesch, as far as I know the individual PASSHE schools don’t set their own tuition rates, those are set for them by the overseeing board I thought.
The individual PaSSHE (State-owned) universities used to have one central tuition. Then a few years ago, the board started approving “experiments” in tuition. Individual universities were allowed to charge more for certain majors, or give discounts to out of state students, etc. Then in the past few years, a number have latched onto the system of charging extra tuition for each credit a student takes per semester after the first 12. It was phased in over a couple years, but is spreading to more universities like a virus. The universities with the biggest drops in enrollment can’t afford to do it, but the more popular ones are doing it, except West Chester. I believe it constitutes false advertising, because a student sees a summary of the annual tuition and assumes they can take a full course load under that tuition. Surprise!
That does not apply to the State-relateds, such as Temple.
Temple’s 10-page Tuition Rate Schedule was quite a startling document when I discovered it a couple of years ago: http://www.temple.edu/budget/budget/documents/FinalFY15TuitionSchedule07212014.pdf
I’m glad they’ve done away with it!
@Charliesch - Here is an article on how IUP did the tuition surprise increase…

Also…please check out this PASSHE Power Point…pay attention to slide 35…Many of the PASSHE schools are in major financial danger…

PASSHE schools will be increasing 2.5 percent: https://www.indianagazette.com/news/indiana-news/passhe-approves-25-percent-tuition-increase,24591221/
Damn this sucks!
Temple is the only university with automatic aid that I wanted to apply to.
Have they announced the merit scholarships yet?
@ClarinetDad16 from what I heard during an info session last week, the counselor said Temple would announce it in September (I think the counselor meant mid September)
Deal struck for Temple president’s resignation.

That’s not going to help the budget deficit.
According to an email I received, after inquiry, the scholarship info will be available mid-late September now.
