Temple U MT Class size?

Anyone know how many were accepted into Temple’s MT program this year? I know the program is limited to a max of 16-18 (can’t remember exact number) but I am curious to know how many will be in the class of 2014. Thanks!!!

Stagemom23,

I have the same question. My son and I are going to visit this coming week, so I will see what I can find out.

Parkbench87…thanks…we were there last weekend to see Rent (which I highly recommend you see if you can…I was very impressed) but I forgot to ask RJ after the show. I’m hoping he pops on here at some point and sees my question!
My D has already signed on at Temple…she had a great vibe from the place and really felt good about her audition there. Seeing Rent really made her feel that she made the right choice. Has your son made his decision yet? (BTW…which day did your S audition?)
Enjoy your visit…we’ll be back down there on April 18th for Experience Temple day. :)

Stagemom23,

We are going to see Rent and my son is going to sit in on a couple of classes. I was also very impressed with the program on the audition date (Saturday Feb 13th) and Temple is one of his top two choices.

He hasn’t had a chance to check out the campus and classes so he will have a chance to do that this week. After that it’s compare the programs, look at the money, and make a decision, which he will do by the 15th.

Hey everyone!

I just spoke to RJ, and he said that they made offers to 18 (this includes both freshman and transfers). There is a very short wait list. Also, I was told they offered almost twice as many spots to men as they did to women (aka they sent more guys offers – we’re a bit unbalanced at the moment). Hope this helps! Feel free to post or PM me if you have any other questions!!

Katie

Thanks Katie! That’s alot of boys!!!
D and I will be down Sunday April 18th for Experience Temple and she will be auditioning for the incoming freshman theatre scholarship. If you happen to have any free time we’d love to meet for coffee with you (and any other MT’s who would be interested) in the afternoon. PM me!
Just wanted to say that you and RJ have been very helpful…thanks for keeping us all posted on Temple. If it wasn’t for this board D would have never know about the amazing program Temple has!!

Stagemom - I just sent you a PM :)

If anyone else who is visiting Temple would like to meet with me, send me a PM and we’ll set something up!

My son and I spent all day Wednesday at Temple, and I do mean all day. He attended a dance class and a theater class. We met with the Director of the MT program, we took the campus tour and we attended “Rent” We left our house on 6:30 AM on Wednesday and didn’t get home until 1:30 AM the next morning.

Both I and more importantly my son, were very impressed with the MT program and the whole Temple environment. It appears like they are really building a solid MT program. He enjoyed the classes and the students were extremely friendly, a few of them took him to lunch between classes. Philly is also a great city that offers many opportunities.

The show was superb and he could definitely see himself attending. The one stumbling block is the money. I’m going to have to figure out that one.

Glad you had a positive visit! I know you were looking at the MT program specifically, but did you get a sense of Temple’s straight acting program at all? Temple is on D’s radar for next year.

Thanks for the update Parkbench87…my D felt the exact same way as your son! We will be going down again next week and meeting with one of the Temple MT students here on the board!! D can’t wait!
We found Temple, although the least generous of all her schools with fin aid (so far), to be more affordable at the outset than than the conservatory D was originally going to attend. The way I see it, she is going to get a very well rounded education, both academically and artistically for a bargain price. A BA degree but with BFA-type training in a small, intensive program…can’t beat that! Plus now that D has been accepted into the honors program I think there may be potential for more scholarships further down the road.
Good luck to you and your son with his decision! Keep us posted!

LefttofPisa,

I can’t comment specifically on the straightacting program, though I do know that there acting program has been well established for over 40 years. My son did sit in on an acting class and he was impressed. Definitely schedule a visit and ask to sit in on classes. Maybe you can schedule your visit to coincide with a time they are doing a play.

Stagemom23,

I agree with you totally regarding Temple and the opportunities it offers. Coming from a diverse HS it is also nice that Temple is a very diverse environment. In general Temple’s list price is much cheaper than the private schools. Our dilemma is that the private school he was accepted too has given us a substantial grant while Temple does not provide as much aid. I’ll keep you posted.
