Terrapin Technology Store

I just want to post this information so that it's out there. If you are are UMD student or parent and you buy a new computer, make sure to buy your software from the Terrapin Technology store in the Stamp Student Union. I just bought Office 2008 for Mac for $68 and Photoshop CS3 Extended for $212. I probably just saved $1000.

I have a ?

Does anyone prefer one system over another? We have alwas had windows, but we are considering the MacBook...Any suggestions?

Also do we need to purchase the modem adapter or are the dorms wifi?

Finally, I could find lojack for the computer, but not a lock, where do you find that on the site?

Thanks.

Don't forget with the Mac you get the Itouch for free!

I recently switched from Windows to Mac and I love it. I don't have the same kind of power to work little tricks with the system, but it runs more smoothly and works better for my needs (the Mac I mean). But to each his own.

The residence halls are completely wifi, but the wired connection is usually more stable (and you don't have to connect to it every time you turn on your computer). You can buy a laptop lock at any technology or office supply store (I got mine from Staples for about $12).

I've had both and prefer my Mac. Definitely get the AppleCare protection plan (I assume they offer that through the Terrapin Technology Store). For the couple hundred dollars extra, it's totally worth it. I've gotten about $4000 in free repairs thanks to AppleCare over the past couple of years.

is it worth the few extra hundreds of dollars to get a computer from the school? i've heard that the warranty is really great (one of my friends just bought a laptop and she said that if anything happens to it during her 4 years, umd will completely replace it).

i'm still not completely sold on getting my new laptop from the terrapin techonology store...

D got her Dell last year....at that time, it was significantly cheaper than the same set-up would have been if we ordered it directly from Dell. I also got one at the same time. The onsite support has been helpful for her, and I've had great response getting minor things replaced via Dell's telephone support. D is a computer geek and set her PC to dual boot....can do Windows (for those applications she really HAS to do, under protest), but runs most of her stuff via Linux.
