Terrible ACT math for CalTech/MIT

Hi, everyone. At the time of taking the ACT, I was a sophomore and had only taken Accelerated Math I (Basic functions, etc; very simple high school math) My next math class started in my second semester, and I took the ACT and SAT during my first semester.

SAT math was a 720 (overall composite was a 1970; bad reading/writing), and ACT math was a 27 (overall composite was a 32; oddly enough received pretty good reading/writing/science).

I'll be taking university level math courses (and all other subjects as well; early enrollment) the next two years, and it's worth noting that I've taken "Accelerated Math II" (my school's name for it) since these test dates.

Do I have any hope of bringing these up in time to apply (this is the summer after my sophomore year)? How much would these math classes help me bring them up? Do I have any chance?

Those scores are unfortunately pretty low for Caltech or MIT, even if you do bring your math up (which your class will help with). But the other thing is that you shouldn’t be doing “very simple” math in your sophomore year. Look into doing some math in the summer and skipping ahead to pre-cal or cal.
