Terrible Junior Year Grades

I received my semester 1 grades today, and I am SOOOO disappointed. I’ve always received Honors or High Honors and I failed to do so this semester. My classes and final grades (so far) for this year are:
*Piano I (96)
*Honors US History (92)
*Honors Pre Calculus (82)
*AP Literature (84)
*Honors Robotics (87)
*AP Chemistry (79)

Despite being stuck with some terrible teachers, I can’t seem to figure out why I’ve been doing so horribly. I used to be a straight A student and now I’m more of a straight B student.
Next year I’ll be applying to North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina -Charlotte, Virginia Tech, Duke University, and the University of Connecticut -Storrs.
Will admissions focus more on my Junior year grades or my course vigor? Will I even stand a chance getting into any of these colleges?

Hey, I completely know how you feel. Even though I can’t give you many tips, I’m really in the same boat as you… honestly, my grades are almost exactly yours. I’ve been told that a lot of times they’ll take into account your schedule’s vigor, and as long as they see an upward trend they’ll be pretty satisfied. Let me see if I can show you my semester grades.

AP Biology: 82
Principles of Engineering Honors (PLTW): 97
Pre-Calculus CP: 88
Forensics: 98
AP US History and Constitution: 91
AP Language and Composition: 88
Chemistry 1 Honors: 86

My chemistry grade is largely due to a poor teacher as well, and she’s the reason I’ve decided to not take AP Chemistry (she’s our school’s AP Chem teacher.) AP Biology is also due to a rather tough teacher; not bad, just tough.

I’m personally not planning on going to any schools much larger than University of South Carolina, Clemson University, colleges like that. Same degree regardless of where you go, you know? (:

Look at each schools Common Data Set to see how your stats compare to students that were admitted recently. College admissions are getting more and more competitive , even for instate flagships.
