I know this may be a bit of a stretch but I’m looking for all the help I can get at this point. To say the very least, I have a terrible Latin teacher. In Latin I and II, you basically only study nouns/conjugations and are given a very limited overview of subjunctive/indicative and active/passive…even conjugations aren’t really covered, and no grammar at all beyond that. The class mostly consisted of us watching movies on Roman history and mythology, and there are nearly no quizzes or tests. I have probably not learned a single word of proper Latin since the first day of freshman year. Now I am in my junior year (This is how it is at my school) taking AP Latin, and I do not know how I will be able to reteach myself two years of Latin in order to be able to even begin to translate the lines and pass the exam. We are suddenly reading the Aeneid, and I am quite lost. Even in AP, the environment is very lax and no one takes the class seriously. If anyone could direct me to any resources or a way to study outside of the classroom, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
Look on the collegeboard website; considering there are like no review books, this will be your best resource.
If you have any friends or classmates who are motivated to do well on the exam, try to form a study group. There are likely others enrolled who are frustrated with the current teacher. Maybe find students not in your class period or people you know from a nearby school or homeschool. There are two study books I know of, AP Latin Vergil and Literature (2007) and AP Latin: Vergil (2010). The College Board released a paper form of an AP Latin Vergil exam from several years ago that you can purchase. However, these books likely cannot benefit you if you have a very limited Latin background. Consider a tutor, an online class, or a community college course. Definitely ask your teacher if he/she has any advice for exam preparation.
