Terry scholarship

Haha i hope so, calling utd tmmrw and asking when invites go out… I really need this thing and i thought my application pretty good but i dont want to screw up the interview if i got it.

That’s good. I wish you the best of luck!

@rb1995 They picked 44 nominees and 22 will get the scholarship at UH.
I applied for the Terry scholarship at 3 schools and I found out today that I was not nominated for UTD and Texas Tech. I think you’ll receive an email notification today if you got it. (I wonder if you can get multiple nominations… or you can only have one?)

As for my stats, they’re all right. My test scores are somewhat above average, various extracurricular activities, good grades/challenging courses, demonstrate financial need, etc…

I wish you all best of luck!

I just found out today that I was nominated for UH. I haven’t gotten my letter in the mail though!

I think they’ll probably make you pick one school you’d like to go to. It’s more fair that way.

I’m the other way, I do well in challenging courses, and I’m a leader in a few extracurriculars, but my test scores aren’t too hot.

Did you apply for the honors college at UH?

I am new to this forum, was just looking around about the terry scholarship. A little about me:

I am a fairly good student, got my act together junior year and am about 12% of my highly competitive class (3.6 unwheigthed and still 66/467 :[).
SAT of 1950 (1330 math/reading)
ACT 27
Decent, but not stellar extracurriculars
Had a job for 2 years

Yesterday I about wet myself when I got the packet in the mail regarding my interview. I applied for the Terry scholarship through A&M and UT Dallas. A&M is my nominating school. I called and set up my interview that afternoon and they were the nicest people. I am worried though that my less than admirable application I sent in is reviewed in depth. I kind of slopped it together last minute with not much hope of getting a call. I also feel like my past grades wont provide much help either. But hopefully they overlook my freshman/sophomore year. To anyone still waiting to hear from UTD, they sent out their REJECTION letters this afternoon, which I received one from. If you didnt get that than you might still be in the running there. If you have any other question (from my limited knowledge) let me know! (:

Also would LOVE to hear from any current/past scholars. Any insight on the interview would be awesome, I am almost depending on this to go to college. (Although trying not to get my hopes up!)

Congrats!

Same here. I just went through one of my essays, and there were quite a few typos, but my second essay was flawless (It was intended for another scholarship, but it worked perfectly for Terry)

How many Terry Scholars does A&M usually have?

Hey guys,

So I got the email today from UTD saying that I did not get nominated for Terry’s…
Pretty disappointed as my stats are very competitive and I think it was my EFC.
Could you guys who got nominated pleasee tell me your efc. I am dying to know what efc terry is looking for.

@rb1995 Sorry to hear! My EFC is 0. I think they look at their nominees holistically though.

@hobbiton Congrats! I did apply to the Honors College at UH and was accepted. Did you? Now we have to apply for housing.

@CT4242 Congrats!

Hobbiton and CT, may I know your efc? Thanks!

And after seeing betas efc of 0 mine is not even close to that haha. Do both of you guys have an efc of 0 as well?

@CT4242 - I got accepted into the honors college as well!

@beta95 - My EFC is around $1600. Also, I didn’t send my fafsa info to UH until a few days ago, so I don’t think they were looking at that. Two of my friends, unfortunately, did not get nominated for the interview and they have stats similar to yours. But don’t worry! With your stats, I’m sure UTD is throwing money at you anyways.

Beta did any of your utd friends get the invite? I do not know anyone from utd who get the terry invite. People with really good stats were rejected so I’m thinking they are really looking for financially disadvantaged students.

And actually beta, I got the highest scholarship at utd which offers full tuition plus a 2k stipend a year but im still going to be having to pay up some. If i got terry it would be an automatic accept haha but now I’m still considering other options.

I think the last three posts were addressed to the wrong people…haha

@1995 - It’s not too late to start applying for private scholarships. It’s gonna be time consuming, but it’ll be worth it if you get something. Also, I’ve heard from a few college students that it’s easier to get scholarships as a college student than it is a high school student.

oh whoops, yes those were for you!

Do you think terry’s at uh is easier than utd? Because a lot of people are getting rejected from utd… One person on here got rejected from utd but nominated at a n m and you would think that its harder at a n m since its much bigger and more prestigious…

You’d be surprised at the number of people who discount UH being a good school. It’s not necessarily easier to get nominated at UH, there’s just less competition. With that being said, UTD has a better reputation than UH, so naturally more people will apply there.

But as the years progress, I think both schools will be equally difficult to get a scholarship for.

I’d think so too, but maybe the person who got selected by A&M offered something they were impressed by.

Hey guys, sorry been busy.

RB, as for my EFC my FAFSA reported it as zero.

I’m not sure if I got denied the chance at UTD based on the fact that I already got an interview or they just weren’t interested. UTD is very academically oriented so I am very surprised you didn’t get an interview. Sorry to hear about that.

From the letter I got from A&M, they are only doing one week of interviews, and if you do the math it’s like there is 30 interview slots. Althought they could be doing other weeks of interviews. When I called on the phone though he didn’t ask about my letter and only mentioned that one week, so who knows. Anyway the packet said roughly half of the interviewees get the scholorship.

And as for what I had to offer at A&M, I honestly don’t know! My essays were about how I grew up without a father and my other family’s alcohol problems. I think they are very oriented on need based aid so they may have considered me based on that. Anyway best of luck to everyone who gets the chance! If you have any questions I’m happy to answer!

When’s your interview? Mine’s on April 12th in San Antonio.

Mine is April 9th in North Dallas

Goodluck! Keep us posted on how you think you did!
