Syracuse has said they are test optional through 2023. Daughter is looking to apply for fall 2024. Anyone heard plans for 2024? Or when they may announce? Hoping they continue test optional as she is a top student but not a good (math) test taker. She is prepping for ACT now just in case. Thanks!
She’ll do great and it won’t matter.
Ps you have lots of time. Her score will improve as she gets more math in.
@OregonMom2024 you have started a few threads asking if schools will be test optional in 2024. Really…none of us are soothsayers, and there is no way we can even guess this answer. Your best bet is to keep close eyes on the schools of interest to your daughter…and have her take both the SAT and ACT just in case the schools she really wants requires one of these. I’m suggesting taking both because some kids just do better on one than the other, and There is no way to predict which one either.
Even with all of this…there WILL be colleges where your student will be a welcome addition to their incoming freshman class!
I generally agree with this advice but suggest taking practice tests for both the SAT and ACT and then target one of those tests to prep for and take.
Yes, I suggested taking both tests because students sometimes do better on one test than another.
Best to be prepared. Just in case schools don’t not remain test optional.
Agreed. It’s still too early but not to prep.
@OregonMom2024 imho TO is for those (my opinion) who can’t score where needed for the school.
But it’s too early to assume that. If math is a weakness study hard. These tests can be conquered and you’ll have a test score to be additive to the app. The TO is an if needed crutch but go in with strong mind. You’ve got this.
Ps. Last year only 38% of Syracuse submitted. Counter that with a school that’s been TO since 1969 -Bowdoin - yet 88% submitted.
So if logic prevails it’s likely SU will continue but just make it a non Issue since most already aren’t !!!
Ps looks like u have many chains with the same topic. But just need one.
Get on the schools info lists…have your daughter set up a generic college only email like hs name first name so if the hs is presidential and your daughters name is stacy something like presstacy24@gmail
Get every school of interest signed up. They’ll email you non stop and when they announce their plans for 24/25, you’ll be the first to know.
But have your daughter tackle the beast and it all goes away.
I thought your post was a little unclear (practice test vs actual test) so I clarified it for folks who may not have understood the distinction.
Thank you all. She is prepping just in case but hate to see the potentially wasted hours
/ money of prep time. Hoping they announce soon. Fall 2024 applications mean spring 2023 tests, so a lot of kids are on hold. Four of her top schools have yet to announce. Ugh.
I didn’t expect soothsayers, just wondered if anyone had spoken directly with an admission counselor about 2024.
Never hurts to prep.
Put it this way, a good score will go a long way - admission or merit.
Less and less kids are applying TO because they can’t take the test. More and more are applying TO - because their score didn’t resonate. And the schools understand this.
You mentioned a lot of schools - SU is just one.
So an SU - more kids come test optional and (my alma mater) - it’s an easier admit for a named school.
Other schools - will not look upon no test in a positive way even if they are TO.
Some schools that offer merit - have different (higher) scales for submit vs. TO.
So the smart thing - in my opinion - is to prep. A good score can only help you, it cannot hurt you. So prepping is not a time waste.
Unless you are applying to a test blind school (UCs) - where there is no chance of a boost.
But even if she studies and gets a non-usable score, it wasn’t a waste. It was a smart move to try to enhance your outcome - both academically and financially.
Good luck to her.
