Test out (CLEP) or take an actual college course?

Should I test out of a few college courses or take them to raise my gpa? I’m a junior in college already, and I still have a few random courses (like us history, etc) to take. I’m a decent test taker so I should be able to pass the CLEP exams without much trouble.

Thing is… I do have a pretty bad gpa right now. So taking an actual class can raise my gpa, but is it worth it?.. maybe I should just focus on my major courses? Any thoughts?

I would be saving money and time taking clep exams… but I would like some input. Any experience, opinions would be appreciated

If the classes have a reputation as Weeders take the CLEP.

Only take the classes if you know for sure that you can get the easy A. Do some research on which professor is the easiest and register for that class.

We do not know your financial situation. So you and whomever is funding your education are the only ones who can weigh the opportunity cost of CLEP vs taking the class for the future.

Our D found CLEP exams a great way to get out of a couple of gen en requirements in order to take more coursework in her areas of interest. If you are looking to save time and money, I recommend exploring CLEP. Plus, if you are a junior you have already earned a significant number of credits. The grades/credits you would earn in the couple of classes you could CLEP out of would likely not significantly move your GPA one way or the other. You could play around with a GPA calculator to find out for sure.

Make sure you check if your college accepts CLEP when you have junior standing. Mine only accepts CLEP and AP until one has sophomore standing.
