Hey guys,
I took the ACT and received a 35 on it. I took the SAT subject tests for Chemistry and for Math II and received an 800 on them. My projected UC GPA is a 4.22, 4.16 for non UCs. What colleges do you guys think i have a good shot at, based off of my test scores? I have a lot of leadership skills; I am the Co-President of two clubs and the Vice President of one club. All are STEM related. I am also in ASB as the Secretary of Public Relations. I am an Indian male from California. Budget is not an issue. Please help and give me advice. Thanks!!
Intended major?
I’m i’m not sure yet, but I definitely want to go into Premed so any major in that field would be ideal as of now.
For Pre-med you want to attend a school that is affordable (which seems fine since you say no budget) but Medical school is very expensive so better to save as much $$ during your Undergrad.
You also want to attend a school where you have a high chance for a 3.7+ competitive GPA, access to Medically related EC’s/volunteering, a school with good Pre-Med advising, a variety of majors in case you change your mind , an employable major as a backup if Medical school does not happen and above all where you would be happy spending 4 years of your life.
I would naturally say, consider the UC’s and some top Cal States (SLO/SDSU) as obvious choices for a CA resident. But here is some cautionary information taken from the Pre-med forum.
CA is one of the worst states for a pre-med to be a resident of. Large population; not enough med school seats.
CA produced over 6200 med school applicants in the last cycle. Only 16% of the those 6200+ matriculated at a CA med school (public or private). Another 25% matriculated at an OOS med school, but most CA applicants (59% or 3652) were not accepted into ANY med school.
Nationally, less than 40% of med school applicants are accepted into any medical school in any given year. The odds for MD/PhDs are even poorer–238 applied; 88 matriculated.
