Texas A&M

if you are a current student how do you like A&M?

how is the food?
how are the chicks?
how are the dorms?personal bathrooms?

if you had to choose again, would you pick A&M?

and also what is your current GPA

A&M is an okay place, not too bad. It’s a big school in a small city, which I don’t really like. Nevertheless, I’m transferring to UT this upcoming Fall '10. I don’t feel I would have as good a chance at for medical school doing undergrad at A&M than I would at UT.

The food is average. I really like Chik-fil-A so I get that almost everyday lol. The main dining halls are Duncan and Sbisa. I’ve been to Sbisa several times and found that their food (buffet styles) isn’t really that good. Haven’t been to Duncan yet. Overall, the food here is neither good nor bad.

The chicks are really attractive/hot here. There are a variety to choose from lol. xD

If you prefer partying and lots of noise, live on North side. If you prefer quiet and time to study, live on South side. I live on Northside (Walton) which is pretty crazy/rowdy at times. I would pick dorms with private/connecting bathrooms if I were you, but those cost a little bit more. The Commons would be a great choice. The cleanliness of bathrooms will depend on your roommate/suitemates. My suitemates are very dirty, so my bathroom is dirty. The custodians will clean your bathroom once a week and twice everyday if you have a community bathroom.

Hmm. I didn’t exactly choose to go here, but probably would if it was just A&M vs. every other school in Texas besides UT and Rice.

4.00 GPA - Biology Major

yea i wanted to go 2 UT, but since i got CAPd idk , i dont want to do the CAP, i was just going to try my luck at another university and transfer out if i had a good enough GPA to get into their business school

A&M has a pretty good business school, although UT’s is much more recognized/better. CAP isn’t so bad according to my friends. Do it if you really want UT. Otherwise, A&M is a solid backup school/choice. :)

i want to go to UT, but it wouldnt kill me if i went somewhere else. I just want to go somewhere that want be boring 4 the next 4 years. even if UTs business school is higher ranked than A&Ms i cant see employers not hiring you because of this, but i want to go to law school anyway so i dont think it will affect me

Uhm, alright. College is what you make of it (although it is hard to have fun in CS -_-). It can be either boring or fun; it all depends on you. You should go visit A&M if you get in, and see if it’s the college for you.

isnt A&M the only other TIer 1 public school besides UT

For public schools, pretty much I guess.

I think A&M is the only public school thats comes close to UT in texas

Texas A&M, UT, & Rice are Tier1 Universities in Texas.
Texas is trying to get 5 universities up to this level

Couldn’t disagree more. I won’t argue that there isn’t a lot more to do in Austin, but I still find plenty to do in CS.

I don’t have a car. My choices are VERY LIMITED. The only entertainment I have are athletic events (basketball/football only) and maybe Northgate (which really isn’t that great). That’s about it.

Yeah it would be tougher without a car. Northgate is pretty average as far as college bar scenes go, but it just annoys the crap out of me because I don’t feel like dealing with people that are that out of control when I go to a bar. I definitely prefer going places that are more chill like Murphy’s Law.

Is northgate the only fun thing to do on the weekends? Do a lot of kids go to fraternity parties? How hard is it to get into them if you are not in one?

Northgate is a blast. Yeah, its not massive like 6th street, but there’s at least a dozen bars worth visiting, there’s a couple good dance clubs, some places like the dixie chicken that have food, tvs, pool, etc. Plus, its much more affordable than 6th street or any of the bars in Dallas/Houston. If you keep your eye out for specials, you can drink hard really cheap. And only a couple places charge cover. And there’s carpool to take you home for free if you’re too drunk to drive.

College Station is situated right between Dallas, Houston and Austin. Its even pretty close to New Orleans. Weekend trips to the big cities are fun every once in awhile, but they’re not practical for most people. The way to have fun and not kill your wallet is to pregame at a friends’ apartment, then buy 2-4 drinks at Northgate (if you bring cash, you’ll be less tempted to splurge. $20 should do it. I only bust out the plastic if Im trying to impress a girl)

Don’t forget that the Dixie Chicken also smells like someone peed all over the floor any time after about 9 pm. The food is decent and the atmosphere is fine, but the stench keeps me out of there. Haha

i think atleast 2-3 more schools will be Tier 1 in the next 5 years
