Texas Honors Math Camp

Is this a competitive program? I was shocked that firstable it doesn't have like a math quiz as part of the application, second, it draws way too many kids from TX...

Yes, it’s a pretty competitive program. And historically we do have quite a few students from Texas simply because the program is held in Texas (it’s a big state!). The application consists of an essay, a teacher recommendation, and your school transcript. We’ve had former MathCounts winners attend, and many of the students who attend our program do quite well in the Siemens Competition.

You can apply today at, [Honors Summer Math Camp Application : Texas Mathworks : Texas State University](http://www.txstate.edu/mathworks/applications/HSMC-application/hsmcapplicationonline.html)

andragon, given that bestswimmer has not posted on this thread in a while, I wonder whether you could answer a question I have about the camp. My son, a freshman this year, wants to apply for Summer of 2011 though he has not yet taken pre-calculus as he is currently taking Geometry and Algebra II. Should applicants have finished pre-calculus?

(I never went to this camp, but I know a good amount of the number theory taught there.)

No, you don’t need precalc. (In fact, you would be fine without geometry and maybe algebra 2.)
