Texas parents help me out

I PM’ed you.

My junior son has done pretty much all Honors(GT) & PreAP. They both get the extra point (A=6). I let him drop out of the English since it was incredibly difficult and that’s his weak area, however, I was stunned to see how ridiculously easy the “Advanced” (the only other level) was. Apparently in Fort Bend ISD there used to be 3 levels, but due to financial issues they dropped the middle level just named the lower level “Advanced” to sound better I guess.

If anything our district is adding more preAP. Our middle school offered PreAP’s for the first time (no extra points - just extra work). I thought they were great! However, I will NOT encourage my younger son to take the preAPs if he’s not getting the extra point until the remove the top 10% rule. It’s super easy to get an A in an “Advanced” course, but not nearly as easy to get a B in a PreAP. It’s kind of a risk even WITH the extra point, too much risk without it imho.

Can you tell us which ISD you are in?

When you go to the College Board website, go to the professional section. Under Professional Development, there are several workshops offered for PreAP programs. The correct buzzword is “vertical alignment” - it is necessary for AP students to receive the appropriate preparation in the courses leading up to a college-level course.
