Which College in texas would you say is the best? (all around)
I am currently a junior and am looking at rice?..
so, what do you think
thanx

I would say Rice, UT (My Dream business school (impossible to get in)), Baylor, A&M, and SMU are the best schools in texas.

A&M is a party school. Don't go there.

Rice and Baylor are the best. Baylor is a mega christian school, incase that's a turn off for you.

Rice, UT, A&M, and Baylor, each in their own areas.

I don't think very highly of Baylor. There has been some debate already on this, but the administration continues to censor the content what is taught. Baylor is not in the league with Rice, UT and A&M. While A&M might not have as strong an academic reputation as many of the schools discussed on these boards, it is an incredible research institution with one of the strongest alumni networks in the country. It has a very unique culture, so a visit is a must!

TAMU can be the hardest school of the bunch, depending on your major. It is very good in engineering, pre-med, pre-vet. Rice is the most respected in many areas, along with UT. Baylor and SMU are upscale privates that have decent academics, but are not competitive on a national scale. Don't forget Trinity in San Antonio, Austin College in Sherman, UT Dallas; each have particular strengths. You need to decide what your particular interests are, then look for schools that will fulfill them.

what is TAMU? r u taking about TAMS texas academy of math and science?

rice, university of texas at austin, and trinity, def.

baylor is overrated. the student body is homogeneous (christian, white, upper class, and conservative) and is not tolerant of alternative ideologies. how can this environment be conducive to learning? the town of waco doesnt present many opportunities for students either.

trinity university presents a greater education at a similar cost. trinity is more intellectual, more open-minded, and more diverse. the students develop personal relationships with professors and the town of san antonio provides GREAT entertainment.

TAMU is Texas A&M.

Rice is WAYYYY better than Baylor, IMO at least. From my school everyone can get in to Baylor and UT Austin is much harder. Rice only the top quarter will get in easily.

^ What are you talking about. To get into Rice you need to be top 5% in your class have really good EC's and SAT scores. Its as hard to get into as some ivy schools.

UT Austin- 76% of the school is made up of top 10% students, so I don't know what you are talking about how easy it is to get in.

Baylor has one of the better medical schools in the country.

A&M is the only school where you guaranteed admission with a top quartile and a pathetic 1300 SAT.

For the umpteenth time, Baylor College of Medicine is NOT affiliated in any way with Baylor University despite the same name.

Consider Southwestern University in Georgetown also. Excellent acceptance rates into medical school.

Baylor undergrad is really easy to get into.

Thanx All For The Info.!..
I know that baylor is out of the question, (religion and education, no)... I am thinking of UTSA, RICE, UT... i heard of this program at TAMIU, (my best friend's dad is the dean)... you go to TAMIU for 4 years and they then transfer you to UT Business.. UT Medical... depending on what you are studying... I have NO IDEA what i wish to become, so based on this, where would be the best place to go?... I heard at rice.. 2/3rd's of your classes are major based?... if that's so... "what's my major?" ;)... just a lil' unsure... Thanx all!

sry bout my fragments..... ;) it's all good ;)
just wrote a 10 page research paper... give me a break ;)...

don't apply to Rice, no1 has gotten into Rice from my school the past few years..even my friend who got a full ride to washington and lee was waitlisted frm Rice....Houston isn't that great pollution obesity ehh....Baylor's acceptance rate is like 80 percent...UT is easy as hell to get into as long at u r top 10 percent

dammitsam I was talking about my school. I go to a private prep school in Austin. Becuase it is private they don't accept many kids for UT Austin with the 10% rule not applying to schools that don't rank. Baylor med does not make it a great Pre-med.

Rice and Baylor have a highly selective premed (or med?) undergrad program. If you're looking for the best that Texas has to offer in terms of an education in medicine, this is it.

I'm not really sure on the specifics, but I remember it being mentioned during the info session I attended at Rice...but I'm not going to be applying anywhere premed, so I didn't really pay much attention. Check out Rice's website if you're interested in more information.

You can't go wrong with Rice, UT, or Trinity. Honestly. I love all three universities a lot, and had I not gotten in elsewhere ED, I would've been applying to all three RD. Trinity is particularly notable for its size and liberal arts focus (which is great for those who are still undecided as to what they'd like to study).

And those who are saying Baylor is overrated, you're right. I live five miles from the school, and I'm sick to death of the "Baylor is on its way to becoming a top 25 school" talk. Baylor 2012 is a step in the right direction, but it still has a long way to go, imo.

To quitejaded:Why do you say TAMU is a party school? what's the meaning?

Trinity also gives VERY gernerous in finical aid (merit scholarships), lots of people from my school get (its a safety) and those that apply tend to get very generous aid packages.
