Texas vs. Stanford

let’s not forget that med schools and law schools and top grad programs prefer students not to opt out of classes with AP credit or even dual-high school enrollment courses…UNLESS you used those credits to pursue more upper level courses at your uni…

Not really. He can always go there for his MBA.

Congrats guys on making a smart decision! Stanford is like a BMW and UT is like a Honda Accord. You can choose to either : (1) Buy a BMW which gives you a little more prestige, or (2) Buy a Honda Accord which is actually more reliable than BMW and save the extra money in your retirement account. UT’s Honors programs are like fully-loaded, six-cylinder Honda Accords with leather seats.

Yeah, but the hot girl, much like future employers, will turn their head for a bmw, while the accord goes right past them. Most employers see the school name, the honors notification is in the fine print. Yes you are saving money, but most of you are from texas and are biased. UT is not on the same level as Stanford. Stanford will get you into any graduate program you desire. Their students are the most highly sought after. Stop kidding yourselves.

You should check the placement records of top graduates from UT. They were recruited by some of the top companies and graduate/professional schools across the nation. And if you are good enough to get accepted by Stanford, you can do really well at UT.

Also, if your main concern is hot girls, UT has plenty. Just check the latest ranking by Playboy. :)

Congratulations jimpagels! I know that the UT class of 2013 will welcome you with open arms. I’ll see you there. Hook 'em!

Stanford is definitely WORLD CLASS…but since you got into stanford i expect you will do well at UT…

jim-- my son sent his acceptance in to UT today as well.

I think you made an excellent choice. I have a friend who was a professor at Bowdoin. She told me she wouldn’t spend a ton of money on a “name” undergrad school for her kids, but save it for a prestigious grad school. If you do well at UT, you’ll definitely be accepted into an excellent graduate program.

Good luck, and have a blast at UT!! You’ll love it.
