Anyone know when we get our textbook list? And where is the best/cheapest place to buy them from? Thanks.

Hey man -

The textbook lists usually go up a week or two before school starts. IMO, renting textbooks, at least the ones you aren’t likely to want to hold onto after the class is over, is the way to go. Check out CollegeBookRenter at [Rent Textbooks Online | Rent Used Text books for college cheap](http://www.collegebookrenter.com) when it comes time to order textbooks, and use code CBR593000 for an additional $5 discount off your order. Renting saves you a huge load of money compared to buying textbooks (yes, most likely more than you’ll make by selling it back to the bookstore afterwards), saves you the time you’d otherwise spend trying to figure out how to get rid of them after the semester, and saves you the space you’d need to hold onto unused textbooks. I rented everything except my cinema and music industry textbooks.

(Full disclosure: I am affiliated with CBR, I’m their USC campus rep. But that doesn’t mean I’m not looking out for your best interest, I was using CBR before I became their campus rep because it really is cheaper and saves you the hassle of selling off textbooks. Fast service, good customer support.)

There are a lot of other book rental services, too. It’s also worth it, for the GEs once you hit spring semester, to buy books off your friends who took the class before you.

Amazon and Ebay are good resources for books you want to keep. (Many students find keeping the coursebooks from their major’s intro classes proves especially helpful a few years down the line.) The USC bookstore is pretty overpriced when textbooks are concerned – but sometimes, you’re stuck using it for things like course readers that you can only buy at USC.

Depending on major, you can get away with not buying some books. You might realize in the first week or two of class you need it though. International versions are a great way to save money provided you make sure they’re the same; however, shipping from Asia can take a few days to 3 weeks.

Yeah – ALWAYS wait until after the first class and see what the teacher says! Sometimes, a book listed on your Oasis book list as REQUIRED will only be optional on your class syllabus.

Thank you!
