textbook sales back

does anybody do this? i never seem to hear about it. do you get pennies for your books? even then, isn't that better than hoarding them? Why dont you all do it??

sometimes they give you good prices, sometimes they dont. sometimes they dont even want your book (like if theres a new edition out).

if they dont give me a good price, my books go up on amazon/half.

I've done this. Sometimes, you get just a few dollars for your books other times you get more. I was really excited last quarter when I got $60 for a book... :-) Anyway, I don't like to hoard my books which is why I try to resell them but, you have to keep in mind that sometimes they won't accept some of your books b/c they're using newer editions for the following qtr --- which really sucks, btw.

Agree.....

all my little books that cost me anywhere from $5- $15 pretty much get me $1.
maybe $2.
but selling them online individually would be hella annoying... so i'll prolly just resign myself to pennies.
i'm trying to sell my LS15 book, however... i posted on bruinwalk... does anyone ever LOOK at bruinwalk?
ucla will only pay $30. I PAID $100 DANGIT!!
if no one bites... it's going on amazon.

Maybe you should try haggling with the buyback people. :D

I'm a history major and have tons of really tiny books. Last quarter I spent $200 on books and got $31 back. The book buy back is a major rip off but its a lot easier than selling each individual book online.

I did this with a hardcover book over the summer. It was a pre-law textbook...I payed about $60 for it new, and got around $12 for it "used" at the end of 6 weeks. And by used I mean read through, no marks.

It's almost not worth it. I guess the price you will get also depends on how many people will need that textbook in the future.

Then again, when I bought used books (Groundwork of Metaphysics of Morals and Nicomachean Ethics) they were only about $10 each/paperback, so the bookstore doesn't always make too much money on resale.

they make HELLA profit on resale. you gotta compare prices for the same book, not different books.

^You have a point. I'm not sure what my used books cost new, but I'm sure that the person selling them back got about $.01, or less :)

It's a lucrative business, I'd say. :D =/

Not sure if UCLA does this, but many campuses do book drives at the end of each semester/quarter. They put bins all over. You donate books that the paltry resale price isn't worth it. They send the books to fight illiteracy in Africa, Asia and parts of the U.S. You get karma points! It's usually done by a students and organized by Better World Books. www.betterworldbooks.com

update: I got about $60 for selling books when I paid about... $180 for them. So its around 1/3. While I can get more going thru half and ebay, its too much hassle, better to have that small wad of cacsh than extra books on the shelf. now course readers... they need to be recycled bin

yes, course readers. ugh.

When you sell books back, do you have to show them a receipt that you bought it from them or anything like that?

no. sajkdsakldnsalkdnaskldanslkdasnlkdsnaldas

There's a new UCLA website to sell/buy books: http://www.uloop.com/

yes but it's new so... is anyone gonna look there? no one even looks on bruinwalk.
i'm thinking i'll just post flyers around campus, and if it doesn't sell, it's going on amazon.
so btw... anyone need the "essential bio" by campbell for LS 15 with phelan? plus "mean genes"? i'm selling them together for a mere $70...

post them on amazon...you probably will find the best deal there..

yah but i'd rather just hand it to someone... not deal with mailing and whatnot. but i'll gladly deal with mailing and whatnot than accept a measly $30 from UCLA.
