Can anyone tell me if any services are free if you have your own health insurance?
I have read conflicting articles on this and wondered if any of you can give me any info at all.
Also any recommendations for doctors in close proximity to the college.
Thank you so much

The services are not ALL free. You can call, they are very helpful explaining things. The student health fee (paid along with tuition) covers visits for illness or injury (basic office visits only.) Special procedures, laboratory tests, x-rays, physical exams(wellness), gynecological exams, nutrition clinic, physical therapy, psychiatry clinic or medical supplies are not covered by this health fee.

If their providers are in-network for your insurance then there is just a copay and they bill your insurance. If they are out of network, you pay for services and they will give you what you need to file for insurance or they file it. Out of network services are usually paid to the insured, so you pay them and then get reimbursed. They take checks, credit cards, FSU cards, etc. They can bill your FSU account, but if this is not paid, there is a stop put on your FSU number and you can’t register for the next semester, etc. They will bill your financial aid account.

Labs, Xrays, wellness visits, GYN care is billed at a MUCH lower rate than if you see a community physician. So it may still better to go the Thagard even if it is out of network.

Thank you so much! Thats what I needed to know

Thagard. My son used services a few times. The staff was kind and responsive. Since he was a freshman a few my H and I did “help him along” a few times. I recall I had primary care dr from home call in an allergy prescription. Another time when he told us he had a very sore throat I think my H called and got him an appt. They seem to understand that parents worry so you don’t geel like a pain…We have Aetna and that was always accepted.
