Two of my professors wrote letters of recommendation for me that resulted in an internship. I wanted to do something nice for them since they were so helpful, so I thought I'd give them each a thank you card with a gift card to a local restaurant. Is this ok? I mean I figured the thank you card part is good but is it ok to give them a small gift card? I already bought the gift cards but I haven't given them to the professors yet.

Or am I just over thinking it? Lol

I always give my profs who write me LoRs something small, such as a card and a $10 to Starbucks. So I think it’s appropriate - especially because it’s an INTERNSHIP!

It’s totally fine! I’m sure they will appreciate your gratitude and this will help maintain a good relationship between the professors and you.

Not saying that professors are excited for the $$, but the fact that you went out of your way to get one for them instead of just shooting an email saying “Hey prof, thanks.” makes a difference.
