Thank you letter after college interview?

Hello CC people,

So I have heard that it is nice to send a thank you email/letter to your interviewer. Not sure if it would change the report he sends to the college, but it sure would be polite. My problem is, I had my first interview last week on Thursday (it didn't go too well I think, also it was MIT...) and forgot to send one the day after. During the weekend I was away on a college visit until Tuesday, then I had to do make up work for the week which as I also was taking the TOEFL on Friday. Anyhow, for this reasons I completely forgot about the whole "thank you" letter. My question is, do you think that it is too late to send one? Maybe a hand-written one would be better as they usually take longer to be delivered (never sent physical mail, so correct me if I am wrong)?

Also, for future reference, what should I write on it?

Thank you for helping! I really don't want to seem like the rude kid who did a mediocre interview and then didn't care enough to reply.

It’s better to send one late then never. A handwritten note is definitely more personal, but I think people these days are happy to get any thank you note at all. Just be polite and thank the interviewer for his time. Try to personalize it as much as possible, and don’t be too pushy about your enthusiasm for the school.

Hopefully this experience you had with an interview will help you with your next one.

Agreed that you should still send the thank you note.

Send one now. My kids sent emails which seemed to work just fine (and in three out of four interviews, the interviewer emailed her back saying it was great to meet her etc. which was nice)…

Thanks for the responses! I just emailed him, hopefully he won’t mind :)
