Thank you Note to Tour Guide

I recently had a tour at Andover and I was wondering if I should write my tour guide a thank you note. I probably will, just to be nice, but I was wondering if they would put the note in your file. I read somewhere else on College Con that they do at other BS, but not at Andover. Could somebody please confirm that? Also, what should I say in the note?

If you want to, however its most important to send a thank you note to your interviewer
In the note you should write,
Dear Blank,
Thank you so much for being my tour guide…you really made me like the school
(say something about the school you liked)
This school is my top choice etc etc…
Thanks again,
your name

As a tourguide at Deerfield I can assure you that personalized thank you notes to us students who conduct your tour are not placed into any type of file. They are, however, greatly appreciated and if you do choose the school in particular- the note will make you stand out to your tour guide amongst the rest of the prospective students. Also it is just really nice to know that we showed our school in a positive light and that by giving you the tour, you learned something about our school. So I would say yes, send a note! It’s always great to get mail:)

A thank you note is not an admission’s stratagem for God’s sake. You write and send it because it’s both the right and nice thing to do for someone who took part of their day to welcome and show you around.

It’s strange to me that you’d need to ask these questions at all.

My daughter goes to a top day school in our area. She wrote a thank you note after her tours, she sent another after she was accepted, and she recently sent a thank you note thanking the school headmaster for a great year. As parents, we also sent a few thank you notes. Good manners are always appreciated and noticed in my opinion and I’d encourage you to write a note because it’s the right thing to do.

Parlabane, I said I was going to write a thank you note TO BE NICE. I was MERELY WONDERING if the admissions people put the note in your file. To everyone else, thanks. Your advice helped.

Just a question that crossed my mind, should we write the note in hand or type up an email to our tour guide?

When I was applying to prep schools, I did handwritten notes to the tour guides (I also did this when I applied to colleges this past year). There is nothing like a hand written note and your tour guide will probably appreciate getting some mail!

I think they put the note you wrote to your interviewer on file (I heard this from my secondary school counselor person) but not the one you write to your tour guide. It’s just a nice gesture.
