I just came back from college touring and I completely fell in love with this one school. Now I didn't base all of my evaluations on the campus tour, but the tour exposed me to various uncommonly seen aspects of the college. The tour took place during a brutally cold winter day, and my tour guide did a phenomenal job presenting the school. I want to send a thank you note, and I have it all written out. My question is 1) do I send it through the admissions office? and 2) it's a courteous gesture right? b/c I'm definitely not doing it to kiss up to the admissions office.. advice is appreciated! thanks.

Is there a specific admissions officer you can send the note to? The person who helped you out the most? This is a GREAT idea and a nice, hand-written (especially) letter would be great.

Did you hear any talk by an admissions officer? If so, send it to them. If not, maybe send it to your regional admissions officer (since they'd be the person you'd probably go to for questions about the school). I don't think it's kissing up - you loved the school/tour and you want to show it!

If you don't mind me asking, what college was it?

^^ was gonna ask the same. It might be a college worth looking into. =)

Oh um, the college didn't offer any info sessions--just a campus tour. So I didn't get to meet any admissions officers (My thank you note is addressed to the student tour guide b/c she was the only one I saw basically lol. this is okay right?)

the college was Amherst College. Despite knowing the college basically since forever, I visited unwillingly because I was skeptical about liberal arts colleges but I ended up falling in love with the college. I visited Williams and Bowdoin since then and I'm probably going to visit other NE liberal arts colleges near my area =)

p.s. do thank you notes HAVE to be addressed to admissions officers? or are student tour guides okay too? my tour guide was responsible for my falling in love with the college and I felt that I should probably say thank you to her. But i think I vaguely remember when I called the admissions office to send it through their office..

Yeah, you could address it to the admissions office, but 'aim' it at the tour guide.

yeah definitely. the actual letter will be to the tour guide. thanks so much for the advice!
