Alright, I've thanked all the teachers that helped me and my GC. I also bought some pretty snazzy gifts for them. Do you guys think I should send a thank-you email to my regional adcom? It won't completely out of the blue. I sent her an email before the decision. I also met her when she came on a school visit. Is that completely inapproriate? I just want to thank her for giving me this great opportunity.

I think a short thank you email would be apropos.

Btw, what did you get your teachers/GC?

one of my teacher and GC is married. I got them a bottle of wine, some chocolate, really cool golfballs (the salesman told me they were good...), Paris 1919...

The other one... gift certificate, chocolate and wine

the supplemental one... just chocolate and wine..

I emailed my rep... just write from your heart, let them know of your excitement. It's nice to let them know that all their hard work over the past x amount of weeks has been for a good cause.

thanks. I'll do that right now.

wow david, you went all out. I just got boxes of chocolates for everyone

I just thanked my rec writers in person...

I really like the idea of thanking my adcom. I think that we tend to forget how attached our regional adcoms get to us, and how much they do for us, and how much it hurts them to see us not get in. Their job is pretty stressful...and if they're even partially responsible for making our dreams come true, an email might be in order.

They really are attached, in a way, to us, because they have to fight for us. I emailed my regional rep last night, and he emailed back this morning saying I had made his day, that letters like that are why he enjoys doing what he does, and that he couldn't (1) imagine a better place for me than Yale or (2) wait to see me at Bulldog Days in April. It made me want to cry, he was so excited for me. :)

Wonderful thread. Some of these guys are just three or so years out of Yale undergrad. They really feel for you, because they went through the same stresses not too long ago. Some are doing this as a service to aspiring highschoolers and then they plan on moving on to other professions. Catch them while you can and thank them. It's a thankless job. (This is true at Harvard, Princeton and the top schools.) Jim Nondorf, '90, is a great guy who is doing this work as a labor of love, love of students and for Yale. He has almost singlehandedly made Yale competitive again with Harvard in terms of student recruitment.

Hey! Jim Nondorf is my regional representative! I wonder if he pulled through for me...
By the way, Zuma, are you a student or an adult? I have been wondering that for a while...

I thought Zuma was a yale student?

Sara7246, I like to think of myself as both. But to be quite honest, I am only posting to provide the little experience I have to help so many anxious Harvard/Yale folks navigate a process with which I am very familiar. In the sense in which I think you mean it, I am technically not a student. By the way, I don't post as much on the Harvard thread, because those threads are not as lively as yours.

lol david rune, did u bring the wine bottle to school?

I sent my admissions rep a short email thanking her. I also sent my interviewer a similar email thanking her for her role in the whole process.

I got a pretty quick response from my interviewer: "WOW!!!!!" and some stuff about meeting her again at new student reception in the spring. I'm not sure what that means, but I can't wait!

She might have been talking about Bulldog Days (April 18-19, I believe) for admitted students...that's going to be fun. :)

If it is an alumni interviewer, it's probably a local reception for admitted students.

"...some stuff about meeting her again at new student reception in the spring. I'm not sure what that means, but I can't wait!"

My daughter was accepted last year, and a week or so before Bulldog Days, there was a reception for accepted students and their parents at a local country club. It was very nice: We got to meet her regional adcom there, and there was a panel where a few Yale students answered questions about the school. (Once they accept you, they're eager to have you choose them.)

My daughter went to Bulldog Days too, and had a blast.

Just got a reply... She said very nice things.

Yeah. My interviewer mentioned something about a lunch for the local admits. She was so excited for me! I think I will write my adcom an e-mail over break. I'm still in a daze right now! lol.
